Can a Very Disorganized Home Be Functional?
« on: August 04, 2016, 05:12:10 am »
Hey, this question was part of a survey I took and I been thinking about it on and off for some reason ever since.  Would you have said "yes" or "no" and why? (I said "no"!) In my opinion, when it gets too messed up and cluttered, things cannot be found and it takes extra time to get anything accomplished. That was my rationale.

Well, I guess it COULD be, if you knew where everything was all the time? I couldn't live like that though.

I try to be very organized but when I do get it done, I can't find a durn thing! I can't explain it.

I got rid of clutter and got organized 2 years ago. I'm still looking for something that I used to know where it was and where it should have been put away, but it's nowhere to be found and it's driving me nuts!

So, my answer would be yes, a home could be disorganized and functional. It only becomes dysfunctional if you spen weeks or years looking for something. :)

Hehe.... It's like my office at work. People that come in would say that it is a disorganized mess. I point out that everything is arranged chronologically: the things that I used the most recently are on top, and the stuff that I haven't touched for awhile are on the bottom. ;)

I would say yes.  To anyone coming in, my house looks very disorganized.  But I can find anything I need without much trouble.  It's organized chaos.   :)

I  try to be organized, but hubby is not and is always asking where something is, and if and that is a big if he puts the dishes up i always have to look for items he has put in the wrong place, and yet if they are in the right place (my way) he knows exactly where it is.  I guess it is a man thing.  I even have to go out to his shop and find things for him.

absolutely not.  I have OCD and the clutter drives me insane around here!!! my mom keeps her room completely cluttered, you can barely move in there and it kills me to have to walk in there.  I've offered to clean it up so many times..even begged to but she refuses to let me lol

I get for the person whose's home it is, it's fine for them but for me I cannot stand clutter. I need some organization, but my Mom has a lot of clutter and she knows where everything is! but I always have a hard time when I visit and just don't understand how she can find anything, but she does so for her it is very functional for me a headache!

It depends on if it's truly disorganized or just appears that way to the outside. I know people that have stuff everywhere but can always seem to find their things much quicker than I can in my somewhat neat organized place

Some people really do thrive better with chaos and others need every thing in it's proper place

It's all in the mind of the disorganized.  To the type of person who made it so disorganized, it may seem functional.  To others, most likely not.

I believe if you are raised in that atmosphere then it will pass on to the kids way of living.  For me that would be a nightmare.  I hate junk, mess and just plain filthiness.

I believe that a disorganized home can be functional but not optimally. I am extremely organized and have cut back on all that I own. I have two pair of shorts/jeans/dress pants/under shirts/underwear and work shirts. A pair of tennis shoes, dress shoes, work boots and sandals. Two laptops at home with two peripheral screens, one iphone with two sets of headphones, one Montblanc pen, one pair of ray bans, one bicycle, one scooter and one antique jeep. I wish that my assets/finances were that concise and easy to manage! It takes me eight minutes to get ready for a trip where as it takes each member of the family at least two hours. I need fifteen minutes to get ready for work in the morning. The family needs at least an hour to get ready. Our home is functional even with the other members being so disorganized.

A disorganized home can be functional, but definitely it is a big time waster & not very efficient.
A VERY disorganized home seems like it would be bordering on mental illness.  How much effort does it take to put things in its place, why would someone not do that to a point that a home is in chaos always.

I am very picky !! I like all my things in order. My daughter is the exact opposite. Her house is very disorganized and they seem to function ok. However when I am there I feel so out of place and sometimes go on a cleaning up rampage. She seems ok with that too.
