a friend of mine was asking me but i have never had to use a dating service so i told her to just be careful and take things slow so she does not get hurt because you do not know who you are really meeting

No I never did, but I work with a woman who met her husband on Match.com.  He's a really nice guy, she got lucky.  I think sometimes it can be very scary, you really have to be careful.

I have never used a dating service although my sister has and has had quite an amount of success with it. She always agrees to meet in a public place and always tells someone where she is going. I also had a friend once who used a dating service, he married the girl he met and they had a son together. Sadly they split up a couple of years later but that can happen however you meet someone, online or not!

No.  Never would.  It is hard enough for a single person to get to know and trust someone to be telling the truth when they are standing in front of you.  Online they can be whomever they want.  You do not even know if you are really talking to a man/woman.  I have a cousin who has met men online and it has never worked.  She even drove to another state to meet one of them in person.  Don't know exactly what happened but I know she said she would never do anything like that again.

References?  Didn't know you needed references to use an online dating service.  And "references" is not important at all in a relationship.  Years ago I dated a guy (briefly) and people who told me their opinion of him had nothing to say but good stuff.  Raved about him.  Well let's see.....he smoked pot, drank, and stole my checkbook.  He was a friggin looser straight from haydes.

Considering I've been married for 42 years the answer would be no, I've never used a dating service.   Don't think there were any "dating services" when I was dating.     Not sure if I would use one.  I tend to be a bit skitish.

I am like michele2042 in that I have been married for a long time...reaching 40 next month!  times have changed a lot since my dating days.  Dating services have their place and I know a few people who have found their mates using these type of services.

As others have posted, you need to be very careful about what you share online and if you do decide to meet in person.  Be extra careful then.....let him or her know others know about your meeting and where you will be and I'd be sure it was a public place.

I met my 2nd husband on a dating site. BIG BIG BIG EXPENSIVE mistake.  The guy wooed me.  We ended up married.  Divorced and in bankruptcy in less than 2 years.  Sad thing is the guys step Dad warned me that he was a con artist and scammed woman after woman year after year. So use extreme caution.
