Amount of Caffeine and Anxiety
« on: July 06, 2016, 12:14:45 pm »
How much caffeine does it take to affect anxiety? I read that caffeine can make anxiety worse, and you shouldn't exceed 400mg of caffeine a day. I have consumed 28-148 mg of caffeine daily and was wondering if that could be making me continue to faint, although my anxiety has actually been declining.

Some people are "sensitive" to caffeine.  If they are they might experience fibromyalgia or anxiety.  The book Prescription for Nutritional Healing suggests that caffeine robs the body of important nutrients.

People who consume caffeine should supplement their diet because they have a great need for potassium, inositol, vitamin B1 and zinc.

That being said, I feel that the tendency to faint could indicate a deficiency in a nutrient.  If I were you I'd take a mega dose of a good multivitamin and mineral supplement.

Have a great day!

I'm already taking a multivitamin supplement and make sure I don't take it within 2 hours before or 2 hours after I consume caffeine. My anxiety has been declining regardless of caffeine. I played too many brain games for a while out of struggling with reasoning. The last time I fainted (which was the same day I started this discussion), I didn't feel any pain, and my preceding low threshold felt less serious than it did other times before I fainted. I think my brain has had a lot of unwinding to do, and it just has trouble when it starts to reach another section.

It depends what the source of caffeine is.  The type that most people get...any caffeine at all is bad for you.  I do believe you should look at more things too when thinking about this.  It's an overall health issue.

Interesting topic. I never put the two together. But less caffeine equals more anxiety for me. I limit myself, but feel depression without. I think it is more than substance addiction. But will try more limits to see.

I agree with those who say it depends from person to person.  I drink 2-3 cups of a coffee a day.  I can have a coke...or an energy drink and be fine.  My husband however can't seem to handle even a small glass of coffee.  He says it makes him feel like he's flying.

I can't consume anything with caffeine. It raises my blood pressure too high.

I cannot have too much caffeine or it makes me jittery. However, my mother can't have any at all. She doesn't even drink soda with caffeine.

Personally I don't notice any effects with caffeine. I have heard it can cause trouble with anxiety. I have some blood flow issues and get headaches and the only thing that helps is caffeine. I don't have too much trouble sleeping with the caffeine either.
