TRump's Newest Idiotic Statement
« on: June 14, 2016, 08:37:59 am »
Again, Trump knows nothing.

He’s telling supporters at his rallies that the Orlando shooter was born in Afghan. Didn’t know there was a country called Afghan AND Manteen was born in NY, so I guess NY is now part of Afghan (wherever that country is).  He's also wondering why he wasn't deported.....how do you deport a U.S. citizen and to where? NYAFGHAN?

He has now banned the Washington Post from his press conferences because "they were being unfair to him."  WaPo has now joined the list of censorship of Politico, HuffPo, BuzzFeed, the Daily Beast, the Des Moines Register, the New Hampshire Union Leader, Univision and others have also been blocked from covering events. This is the beginning of CENSORSHIP. The Communist countries have censorship, not America.

"Donald Trump misunderstands — or, more likely, simply opposes — the role a free press plays in a democratic society," Thomas Burr, the National Press Club president, said.  "Reporters are supposed to hold public figures accountable. Any American political candidate who attacks the press for doing its job is campaigning in the wrong country. In the United States, under our Constitution, a free press is a check on politicians of all parties."  He's right.

Asked if his "attitude" towards the press would continue if he were elected president, he said, ""Yeah, it is going to be like this. You think I'm going to change? I'm not going to change."

Do we want a dictator or a president who censors the news if it’s about him? I don’t think so. Even Obama didn’t go that far! He refused to go on news programs that said something against him but he never banned them from press conferences, campaigns, or rallies.

That's not what he said though. The actual quote referred to his ethnic background, not a country.

"The killer was born an Afghan, of Afghan parents who immigrated to the United States,"

Even the Republicans seem to have had enough of his
 idiotic statements.

Ok. I'll modify my statement. He INSINUATED that the guy was born in "Afghan." :)

He didn't insinuate it at all.

Patience Carter, who was inside the Pulse club during the shooter’s three-hour hostage standoff, said during a news conference “Everybody who was in the bathroom who survived could hear him talking to 911, saying the reason why he’s doing this is because he wanted America to stop bombing his country” (from Salon.com)

I guess someone should have informed Omar that his country was not Afghanistan but the US....

In other words, what Trump had said was a remark about the shooter's ideology and how that played a role in the attacks, not that he thought Omar came / emigrated from Afghanistan.

Not so. Trump said this on Monday: “The killer, whose name I will not use or ever say, was born in Afghan, of Afghan parents, who immigrated to the United States,” Trump said during a press conference Monday afternoon. “The only reason the killer was in America in the first place was because we allowed his family to come here.”

I remember laughing at that statement because it was already in the news that Omar Mateen was born in NY. IOW, Trump never knows what's going on in this country because he's too absorbed in himself.  That statement is in quotes because he said it at a press conference at a college.

BTW, Salon is a very left wing Democratic site. I prefer neutral sites...yes, there are some. It's just a little more difficult to find them because the on line "news" sites aren't exactly the truth.

As this part of the speech was not prepared, you cannot know what the exact words he used in order to quote it.... Listening to his speech on YouTube, it is too difficult to say that he said "in" and not "an"; the words are too similar in sounds to accurately differentiate. Considering that throughout his speech, he referred to the country of Afghanistan, it is more likely that he meant the nationality of Afghan and not the country of Afghanistan. Moreover, just like US citizenship laws, anyone born of Afghan parents are also considered Afghan:

Article 2:
All persons born of Afghan mothers and fathers, whether inside or outside Afghan territory shall be considered Afghans and shall hold Afghan citizenship. (see Corpus of Laws)

Thus if Trump actually did say he was born "an" Afghan, he would be accurate in his statement. Omar had duel citizenship from both the US and Afghanistan. He's both an Afghan and an American.

I've also seen people attack this speech of Trumps pointing out where he stated that the only reason why the shooter was in the country was because his parents were here... Their attack of this statement tries to make it sound as though the shooter only "flew" over to the US recently to visit his parents. However Trump was actually talking about our lax immigration policies, including how Omar's parents were granted citizenship. The shooter's father was an active supporter of the Taliban -- the same group responsible for the 911 attacks. Had the US denied Omar's father citizenship due to his support of an enemy of the US, then Omar wouldn't have been born in the US either, and may not have been on US soil in order to commit the shooting. Again, Trump's statement is accurate.

I'm not trying to incur wrath, but D. Trump is no idiot. He won the Republican nomination over many, many others. I am inclined to think that his party should support him, since they promised to support the nominated candidate at the first debate.

Many of his ideas are sound, and anyone speaking in public is bound to make some silly mistakes in their use of words. The questions posed by the media are designed to trip people up, especially if they don't like them.  ???

He is brash and outspoken, but he has made people really think about a lot of subjects that might not have been brought out otherwise. :-X To my mind, he is preferable to any of the Democratic candidates.  :dog:

Please don't bash me for my opinion. I'm sensitive. And I am entitled to an opinion, even if it's diametrically opposed to yours. I'm totally open to listening to other people's points of view.

I don't believe in hating or bashing others for their points of view. That's downright unAmerican.

I'm not a supporter of Trump, but do we really want Hillary?  This is a poor choice we have.  I can't believe they are the best of their party.

We have the right to choose our next leader of this country.   The only way Trump will get to the White House is by voting for him.
