I only answer if I recognize the number. Thank goodness for caller id.

If I do not know the number I would not answer the phone.. If it is important they will leave a message in voicemail

My father on the other hand do not like answer the phone or pay attention to voicemail due to spam

I'm with you!  I check who is calling on my house phone before answering and most often will not answer if I don't know the person.  Most of my landline calls are junk calls anyway, as most friends and family will call my cell or text.

I let the person leave a voicemail. If the person with the unfamiliar number is someone I have already had a worthwhile connection with, I save the number and call back.

I only answer my phone if I know who is calling. If I don't recognize the number then it is more than likely someone I don't want to talk to.

Don't answer unless I know the caller. Caller ID is great.

I recently became aware of a service that supplements the DO NOT CALL Registry ....  it is called NOMOROBO.
 It is backed by the FTC, & thankfullly was an option on Time Warner phones.   I put this on my elderly father's phone & it has stopped all the spam/junk calls... except the rare one which gets through maybe once a month if that.   I was skeptical at first, because the DO NOT CALL has become a joke.  But the no more robo calls was free & the number one rated for blocking junk calls (you can google the ratings).      Check it out, it's free...  I was planning to buy him one of those blocking phone machines, but this robo call thing is working out wonderfully.

I don't have caller ID, so I answer the phone and if they don't talk within a couple of seconds, I hang up. That's how I avoid telemarketers. If it's someone who really wants ME, they will call back. Most of the people I know know I do this. 

Once in a while, I'll stay on the line and ask them to take me off their list, but there are just SO MANY!

I think this is why so many people are getting rid of their landlines. As a conspiracy theorist, I wonder if this is another plan of the government to isolate us all from each other. Don't bash me because I have theories, please. Debate if you like, or refute, but don't bash. Thanks.

I usually do not answer my house phone, mainly use it for the internet. I only answer my cell phone if I have the persons number saved in my phone.

You, my dear, are not alone!!!  I get calls from all over the country every single day and believe I don't answer any of them.  I have a theory, if it's important they will leave a message and since they don't I know it was just as well I didn't bother!!!  Oh, and I am on the National Do Not Call List - so it goes to show ya - that don't mean nothing!!!!!

Unless I know the number, otherwise they can leave a message and if they refuse to leave a message well.  I refuse to do the "someone called me from this number" crap.  I use to get that at work all the time and we had a big company it could have been any employee on break (and somebody might have dialed the wrong number,  it happens). Leave a message otherwise I assume it was an accident.

I hate talking on the phone therefor I do not answer my phone....and depending on whos calling I would call them back later.... But now I have a phone that I havent renewed my service on and just downloaded a texting app.  They can still call but I never hear my phone ring so all they can do is leave a voicemail.
