Stanley Cup Finals
« on: June 09, 2016, 07:30:06 am »
I haven't read much/any buzz about the NHL Stanley Cup Finals here, so I decided to stir the pot on what could be the final day of the season.  Any Penguin or Shark fans out there in FusionCash?  Big time Penguins fan here hoping they can close things out tonight at home.

Interesting trivia I heard the other day that I hadn't really thought about, but immediately realized it was true once I heard it.  The city of Pittsburgh has had quite a few professional sports championships over the years, but they have not WON a championship game IN the city of Pittsburgh since Bill Mazeroski hit that famous game seven 9th inning home run to beat the Yankees in 1960.

All of the Steelers' Superbowls were played at neutral sites; the Pirates in the 70's clinched both of their World Series against the Orioles IN Baltimore; the Penguins three previous Stanley Cups were all clinched on the other teams' ice: Minnesota, Chicago, and Detroit.

Hoping for a Penguin win tonight to have the first championship won IN Pittsburgh in 56 years!  My friends in Cleveland would be upset with that sentiment -- just watched the ESPN 30 for 30 film "Believeland" last week... What a sad story! But after the Cavs win last night there is still a glimmer of hope!

I've been a Penguins fan since 1986 and was thrilled when they won their first two cups in 1991 and 1992. Since then, I've followed the team but haven't been as excited about the players as I am with this edition! I think Mike Sullivan is a modern day Bob Johnson, Phil Kessel reminds me of Mark Recchi and the play of Matt Murray in net is strikingly similar to that of Tom Barrasso. I really hope the Pens finish off the Sharks tonight, I do feel bad for Joe Thornton as his name SHOULD be on the cup but you can say that about many other great players too. By the way, you're right about the Mazeroski stat. Interesting how sports history has so many twists and turns!

I'm going to guess from the lack of responses and low number of thread views that there aren't many hockey fans out there in Fusion Cash (at least not active FC'ers).  Oh well.

Congrats to the Pens coming through big last night, even though they weren't able to do it at home as I had hoped.

Sometimes, in the midst of the hate and violence that hit in Orlando over the weekend, it is nice to have sports as an escape from tragedy.  Prayers to all affected by terrorism and thanks to the Penguins for the opportunity to escape.

I was happy that the Penguins won. I didn't really want the Sharks to win though I do have go give them a lot of credit for making it to the Finals.
