I’ve seen various threads in the past from people at a loss for ways to generate referrals. I’ve mentioned that I get most of my referrals through a web site I maintain which lists Fusion Cash among many other sites, apps, and opportunities to earn extra money. I’m not sure how effective this idea will be and it comes from the mantra of You have to spend money first to make money later. I am using this method to promote my web site, not just Fusion Cash, so I have more exposure and more potential for return referral streams. It MAY NOT be cost effective for plugging only a Fusion Cash sign up link, but even with just FC I think it might be worth a shot.
I generated a QR code which when scanned will link people directly to my web site – (again, not directly to Fusion Cash). Many people already know, but if you don’t know what a QR code is, just Google it and your search will throw up some sample images which you are sure to recognize. You can just as easily generate a QR code which links directly to your unique Fusion Cash referral link – there are dozens of free QR image generators online.
With the QR code generator I used, I was able to upload a small "$" image which the code generator placed in the center of the QR code image. I took that finished QR code graphic and a catch phrase I use on my web site in a stylish handwriting font to a local shirt printing business last night and am having it printed on the back of several t-shirts. The shop I went to charges $14 a shirt ($7 for the shirt itself; $7 for the printing), plus tax. A one-time cost that I am willing to pay on the chance that it might give me a better return in referral dollars generated. I decided to go ahead and get several printed, plus one sweatshirt. So my total investment is about $75. I maybe should have started with just one shirt to see how it goes, but I am pretty convinced that it can take off with my master plan. Rather than have to wash the same shirt over and over, I decided to get a few different colors up front.
I live near a major amusement park where my daughter and I love to ride the roller coasters. On a busy summer day, there are thousands of people, many with smartphones, wandering around the ride queue lines for hours on end. If I wear my QR code t-shirt at the park and stand around in some ride lines, I’m sure to get at least a few hits even if just out of curiosity. If someone is bored waiting in line for the latest and greatest ride (and Valravn is sure to be a hit!) and they see this scannable code walk past in the line over and over again, what do they have to lose? A queue line scan could possibly lead to a conversation where I can talk up the web site or Fusion Cash or whatever. This is a conversation I would never strike up with a stranger just out of the blue, but the shirt/scan could initiate that conversation – planting the seed. If 100 people scan my code and visit my site, there is a chance that at least a few might sign up for something featured there.
I think the ride queue lines at an amusement park are probably the best place for this to work because there is heavy repeated exposure as the same people cross your path over and over again as the railings snake back and forth. If not right away, by the fourth or fifth time I walk by, curiosity might be piqued. But if you aren't fortunate enough to live next to a world popular amusement park, anyplace where you have to wait in line has potential – the bank, the grocery store checkout, the license bureau, etc. Or anyplace where a large number of people are going to be milling about – the mall, the pub, the flea market, a local festival, a sporting event or music concert… The possibilities are endless!
Some people might not be mobile enough to go out themselves to generate this advertising. In that case, ask a friend or family member who might be going to some sort of gathering to wear your shirt for you. You won’t be able to personally engage potential referrals in conversation doing it that way, but you at least get the exposure. Or have a few shirts printed up and give them out as gifts.
I do not work for a shirt printing business, so I'm not trying to drum up any business with this post! It is a new plan that I have yet to fully explore. I have no track history yet on my return. I don’t want to be blamed if someone shells out a ton of cash to print up t-shirts based on my idea and gets no referrals as a result! You still have to sell it whether through initial exposure or follow-up conversation.
Another consideration that you must not disregard: the QR code image printed on your shirt has to be test scanned before you commit to the printing. Print it out on paper and test it to make sure it links to the right referral address. Make sure that it maintains a high resolution if you have to enlarge the code image. (The ones I am printing are about 6" square). If enlarging the code for printing distorts it too much and scanners cannot decipher its code, it is worthless to you.
I ordered my shirts last night and was told they will be ready sometime early next week. I will miss opening weekend at Cedar Point, but I plan to be back often this summer!
I will try to come back and update this thread if possible to give my impressions and any positive reactions from potential referrals.
