Referral Ideas
« on: May 06, 2016, 07:18:32 am »

I’ve seen various threads in the past from people at a loss for ways to generate referrals.  I’ve mentioned that I get most of my referrals through a web site I maintain which lists Fusion Cash among many other sites, apps, and opportunities to earn extra money. I’m not sure how effective this idea will be and it comes from the mantra of You have to spend money first to make money later. I am using this method to promote my web site, not just Fusion Cash, so I have more exposure and more potential for return referral streams. It MAY NOT be cost effective for plugging only a Fusion Cash sign up link, but even with just FC I think it might be worth a shot.

I generated a QR code which when scanned will link people directly to my web site – (again, not directly to Fusion Cash). Many people already know, but if you don’t know what a QR code is, just Google it and your search will throw up some sample images which you are sure to recognize. You can just as easily generate a QR code which links directly to your unique Fusion Cash referral link – there are dozens of free QR image generators online.

With the QR code generator I used, I was able to upload a small "$" image which the code generator placed in the center of the QR code image.  I took that finished QR code graphic and a catch phrase I use on my web site in a stylish handwriting font to a local shirt printing business last night and am having it printed on the back of several t-shirts.  The shop I went to charges $14 a shirt ($7 for the shirt itself; $7 for the printing), plus tax. A one-time cost that I am willing to pay on the chance that it might give me a better return in referral dollars generated.  I decided to go ahead and get several printed, plus one sweatshirt.  So my total investment is about $75.  I maybe should have started with just one shirt to see how it goes, but I am pretty convinced that it can take off with my master plan.  Rather than have to wash the same shirt over and over, I decided to get a few different colors up front.

I live near a major amusement park where my daughter and I love to ride the roller coasters.  On a busy summer day, there are thousands of people, many with smartphones, wandering around the ride queue lines for hours on end.  If I wear my QR code t-shirt at the park and stand around in some ride lines, I’m sure to get at least a few hits even if just out of curiosity.  If someone is bored waiting in line for the latest and greatest ride (and Valravn is sure to be a hit!) and they see this scannable code walk past in the line over and over again, what do they have to lose? A queue line scan could possibly lead to a conversation where I can talk up the web site or Fusion Cash or whatever.  This is a conversation I would never strike up with a stranger just out of the blue, but the shirt/scan could initiate that conversation – planting the seed.  If 100 people scan my code and visit my site, there is a chance that at least a few might sign up for something featured there.

I think the ride queue lines at an amusement park are probably the best place for this to work because there is heavy repeated exposure as the same people cross your path over and over again as the railings snake back and forth.  If not right away, by the fourth or fifth time I walk by, curiosity might be piqued.  But if you aren't fortunate enough to live next to a world popular amusement park, anyplace where you have to wait in line has potential – the bank, the grocery store checkout, the license bureau, etc.  Or anyplace where a large number of people are going to be milling about – the mall, the pub, the flea market, a local festival, a sporting event or music concert…  The possibilities are endless!

Some people might not be mobile enough to go out themselves to generate this advertising.  In that case, ask a friend or family member who might be going to some sort of gathering to wear your shirt for you. You won’t be able to personally engage potential referrals in conversation doing it that way, but you at least get the exposure. Or have a few shirts printed up and give them out as gifts.

I do not work for a shirt printing business, so I'm not trying to drum up any business with this post!  It is a new plan that I have yet to fully explore. I have no track history yet on my return.  I don’t want to be blamed if someone shells out a ton of cash to print up t-shirts based on my idea and gets no referrals as a result!  You still have to sell it whether through initial exposure or follow-up conversation.

Another consideration that you must not disregard: the QR code image printed on your shirt has to be test scanned before you commit to the printing.  Print it out on paper and test it to make sure it links to the right referral address.  Make sure that it maintains a high resolution if you have to enlarge the code image.  (The ones I am printing are about 6" square).  If enlarging the code for printing distorts it too much and scanners cannot decipher its code, it is worthless to you.

I ordered my shirts last night and was told they will be ready sometime early next week.  I will miss opening weekend at Cedar Point, but I plan to be back often this summer!

I will try to come back and update this thread if possible to give my impressions and any positive reactions from potential referrals.

You get an A+ for creativity!

The biggest issue I see with this if people try to sign up and/or do surveys using public wi-fi. Here's FC terms of service:
"Users must log in and use FusionCash on their own personal computer and internet connection only. The use of a FusionCash account on a public or shared computer, or public internet connection is grounds for disqualification."

Also, the thing with spending that kind of money, is that you don't know if it's working or not. FC does not offer any kind of tracking  :( . You really don't know if the money you're spending is giving you a positive return if you're direct linking to the FC referral link.

I personally do low cost paid methods like hanging flyers in laundromats ONLY when I'm out an about and near laundromats. I'm a Staples reward member and I'm always getting the $10 and $30 cash rewards to use toward purchases. If I remember correct, I just have to spend at least $10. I get paper, ink, etc... and it doesn't cost me anything. :)

Most of my referral come from my blog posts and social media.

I intend to possibly down the road build a list in this niche this way I can monetize better and do better paid marketing techniques.

Overall, I love your spirit and your creative genius!!

"You get an A+ for creativity!"  Crisstar's right, UGetPaid, you do get an A+ for creativity.  But aren't referrals on FC considered bonus earnings?  Therefore, you can't cash out with just them; you have to have $15 of non-bonus earnings first, right? That's very hard to get without qualifying for surveys or spending money on offers.  So you could end up with $10, $20, $100 worth of referral earnings just sitting there and maybe even disappearing after the 180 day limit on waiting to cash out.  Maybe FC should lower the non-bonus earnings threshold or, better yet, take referral earnings out of the bonus category.  That would certainly help me and, no doubt, many other FC workers, too.

There are many people on here that get the majority of their earnings from referrals and still cashout about every month

I have 0 active referrals and cashout usually over $40 every month mostly from surveys.

$15 in a month is very doable considering that's just an average of $.50 a day and the email and ptc is an easy $.17. If there wasn't an offer minimum then the site would most likely be losing money

Hi ladavia.  I'm sure there are many FCers who cash out mostly with referral income.  That doesn't change the fact that you must have $15 of non-bonus earnings before you can cash out. So your percentage of referral income really doesn't matter.  If you don't hit that all important non-bonus threshold, you can't cash out.  Thanks for breaking down the $15 threshold to a per day amount.  I hadn't thought of doing that.  Now it doesn't seem quite so daunting, though it will still be hard now that I'm not qualifying for as many surveys as previously.

My FC income percentages vary from month to month, but I usually have more bonus money than earnings and the bulk of my bonus money comes from referrals.  So I tend to focus just on getting the $15 minimum of non-bonus earnings. Like ladavia, I just concentrate on averaging 50 - 60 cents a day.  I actually have a chart with the days of the month listed and increments of 60 cents from $0 up to $15 -- that way, with just a quick glance I can tell whether I am ahead or behind the pace.  I usually end up with between $16 and $20 a month in regular earnings that way.  Without the referrals, I probably would not cash out every month, but it can still be done without referrals if you are able to complete enough surveys.

That's a very interesting concept. I don't think it would be worth doing just for FC, but if you have a websites with a lot of other opportunities, it could probably pay off well. I prefer don't have time to do nearly enough promotion, so mostly I just plug along with my own earnings. I do have one referral that is active though, and actually cashes out more than I do! (especially because lately I haven't been getting the videos to credit, so I don't get the $.15 PTC every day.

Any kind of promoting is good. I belong to a few good programs that offer free advertising.

Hi UGetPaid.  I agree with your strategy.  From now on I'm going to make the $15 non-bonus earnings my minimum and put my primary effort into getting referral income.  Not quite sure how I'm going to get refs, but that's the plan.  :)

UGetPaid, I admire your passion and ingenuity!  Please do come back and give us a report later with your results.  I, personally, would feel like I was invading your space if I pulled out my cellphone and tried to scan your shirt, even though you were obviously inviting that action.  I feel sure you will create curiosity.  I would be more likely to jot down a website URL from a shirt than actually get close enough to use my scanner.

The point is that everyone has the same minimums( $25 total and $15 from offers) to meet.  $15 from offers really isn't that difficult with the amount of things the site offers( surveys, tasks, videos, etc) and over $25 a month without bonuses is also very possible. If you want to concentrate on referrals then you can do that but it's possible to earn without them. There really shouldn't be any reason for your earnings to expire if you even put in minimum effort

The bulk of my income is from referrals (bonus money) because that is the way I wanted it to be. However, I do make enough money to cash out every month as long as I spend at least 30 minutes on here - and that's what I do.

I do have referrals that cash out multiple times, however, the vast majority just sign up and never cash out. That is ok because I still get paid my $1 as long as they confirm their email.

The little bit of effort it takes to be on here is worth it as long as I have 30 minutes to spend. I do FC when I'm eating or when I have off-time. It's not difficult to get to that $15 threshold to cash out as long as you're doing the things on FC that pay out the most - surveys.

The biggest issue with spending money to get referrals, is that you have to make sure that you're coming out ahead. I would say it ok to spend a little bit of money to get referrals (up to $20 on advertising), but not more than that because you have no way of knowing it's working. FC does not offer any kind of tracking. :(

The best way to insure you're in positive cash flow with your paid advertising is to build your list and send people to your lead capture page before you send them to your FC referral link. This way you can promote any kind of offers to them (free and paid) and you'll know better what you can spend on advertising.  :)

I used to advertise my link on internet advertising sites.

Didn't get anywhere, and it was quite time-consuming. Then when the vidoes were not working, I stopped the advertisment.

My family and friends are not interested, so I just work for myself, getting cash out every other week.

Today all the videos worked, and it was fun.  Easy to get the Paid to Click

Yay for today :)

I've been told to just have a free personal website that explains the website and others I use, and give real information, not just spamming your page with links saying, "MAKE MONEY NOW!" because no one pays attention to that knowing 99% of them are scans. So I plan on just being the real deal and showing payment proofs and honestly say, make some side money. You won't get rich, but you can make money when you're bored. I figure I should target teenagers since they are going to already be all over the internet anyway.

I would create a website that is basically for stay-at-home moms, teenagers, the retired, and those on disability to join. I would provide step-by-step guides, and explain how it works. The only issue is getting enough site traffic that people will pay enough attention to read.

I can't imagine anyone with enough tenacity to make $100 in referral bonuses, that couldn't make 10 cents a day in offers. That's all it takes to earn $15 in six months before your earnings expire. In months where you had a hard time getting referrals, just posting in the Forum gets you another $18 in bonus money in six months to meet your $25 minimum. The only way to fail to cashout before earnings expiring, is to not show up for 10 or 15 minutes a day.
