no retirement
« on: February 24, 2016, 06:32:17 am »
there are a number of people who choose not to retire.
one reason is to make the extra money.
another reason is that they don't want to sit around at home and do nothing.
I heard one man say that he'll work until he dies.

Even if I retire from my job of 20 years right now, I still have to be doing something! I have to stay active and I believe that if you keep your mind active, you live longer... that's just my theory anyway. lol

The way the economy is headed, I doubt that I will be able to retire at an age where I would be able to enjoy time not working. I think I would get bored if I didn't have SOMETHING to do every day. Not necessarily work, but I think I would need to stay involved with my community or join a club or have a hobby. Sitting around is hard!

Yeah, I feel sorry for people who feel that work is their only option in life after "retirement". It means to me that they have not found meaning in anything other than  job. :(

What about hobbies, traveling, volunteering?

It's one thing to work because you need the money, it's another thing to work because you believe you have nothing else better to do. :-\

Workaholics! Some people would rather be busy all the time, but when I'm old enough to retire, I'm going to sit back and just tell people stories.

I chose to stop looking for a new job after being laid off from the one I had for quite a few years.  However, I have had to now force myself to stay at home.  I love to volunteer to stay busy.  Thank God that I don't HAVE to work just be very frugal with my spending.  It is now more fun and a challenge to spend time learning how to spend less.

I don't know many people who retire and stop working anymore.  A few have stopped and taken on family burdens to fill the void (personally, I don't think that's healthy) I noticed 9 years ago while working for wal-mart how many retired folks continue working just to having something to do.  Others to fill a void in there income.

I won't have a problem finding something to do after retirement.  I've always had so  much I want to do but work (and exhaustion from working) gets in the way.  Looking forward to an early retirement from my primary job but will still be very busy.

I have been retired for 16 years and the Internet gives me plenty to do, but I can chose when I want to do it. That has been perfect for me.

My grandmother retired 3 times before she actually fully stopped working. Some people have to keep working in order to live and others just want/need something to do with themselves.

I hope I'll be able to retire and be able to do what I really enjoy when I'm older.

My dad is 86 and still working at the part time job he took after retiring 20 years ago --- he doesn't look at it as a job, its something to do.  When we lost my mom in September, having a job to go to every day gave him a purpose and even though he is sad, his days are full and I am grateful!

Even if I retire, I'm going to play a lot of video games on my Xbox and PlayStation console. That's what I'm going to do.
