His death will be a devastating loss to the SCOTUS. His philosophy was very Constitutional / Originalist which seems to be more and more rare.

May he rest in peace, but how dare that some would like to take away our President right to name a new judge, how dare!!!!!

I agree, esp. considering how important the Constitution was in Scalia's decisions. By the same token, how dare anyone that would like to take away the Senate's checks and balances for this Presidential nominee by saying that whomever the President nominates should automatically be appointed to the position. So for those in Congress that want to use the "Thurman Rule" (that says that "lame-duck" presidents should defer SCOTUS nominations until the next president gets into office) to block Obama's duty as sitting president, shame on them. Let President Obama make his nomination, and let the Senate hash it out as to whether to confirm his nomination. And shame on anyone in Congress that also want the Senate to rubber-stamp their confirmation of Obama's nomination without seriously considering the choice.

My thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia. Perhaps this is not an appropriate forum to express this question, but I was wondering about what all the controversy and hoopla is with respect to appointing a replacement for him.

It is sad to hear of someone's passing.  I just pray he knew the Lord Jesus as his Savior.  Unfortunately, this has opened up another heated political can of worms for our country.  I personally do not think they should be in their positions for life especially since they were not voted in by the American citizens.
Have a wonderful day!

Is this the same judge who believed it's Constitutionally sound to execute an man who is actually innocent, as long as he had a fair trial?

Sometimes the only thing that stops evil is death.

I had no respect for the man in life.  I'll pretend none at his death.

I agree, people are getting ridiculous. The court needs to move on and be functional for the next several months and a replacement is needed.

I did not know of him. But It was a blessing to having his son, the priest, to celebrate his funeral mass.

It is quite sad. His funeral mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception was beautiful. There were so many touching moments/celebrations that highlighted the gifts he shared with the world and his family but his son's eulogy was just breathtaking. A reminder of living each moment of life to its fullest. Two of my favorites quotes are...

"Scripture says Jesus Christ is the same yesterday today and forever. And that sets a good course for our thoughts and our prayers here today. In effect, we look in three directions. To yesterday, in thanksgiving. To today, in petition. And into eternity, with hope." - Rev. Paul Scalia

"But more important to us — and to him — is that he was Dad. He was the father that God gave us for the great adventure of family life. Sure he forgot our names at times, or mixed them up, but there are nine of us." - Rev. Paul Scalia
