Commercials - SB
« on: February 08, 2016, 05:28:31 am »
What did people think?

There were a couple good ones, but I wasn't super impressed.
There seemed to be less beer and car ones than in years past.

I remember saying to my husband that the commercials just are not what they used to be years ago.  The only thing memorable about them is that they were mostly dumb or boring.

The one with the former astronaut driving a new Audi, recalling his earlier years was pretty nice.

I agree that the ads seem to get more "average" each year, with fewer ones that really stand out. I also noticed fewer ads for cars and esp. beer this year. I think partially because advertisers are airing their "Super Bowl ads" before the actual game, esp. online.

I also saw a vlog from Cracked that pointed out how advertisers are beginning to use "banned ads" (whether or not they are truly banned from being aired).... The viewers are already expecting that the Super Bowl ads tend to be edgier than normal, so advertisers can claim that an ad was banned from the Super Bowl and the public will readily accept that reasoning. And because the edgier ads tend to be the ones that the people like (or are more memorable), when an ad is claimed to be banned, people will actually go online in order to watch it. Thus "banned ads" tend to be a double bonus for advertisers. Firstly it gets consumers to actively search for a particular brand's ad instead of just passively viewing it during the game. And secondly the online ads (esp. if the ad is made into a YouTube video) are much less expensive than paying for a Super Bowl spot on TV. Go Daddy's Danica Patric's ads from a few years ago somewhat used that trick by telling the viewer to go to their website to see the entire ad (as though the rest of the ad was too salacious to be aired on TV). But now since so many people are online, and more are looking to preview "Super Bowl ads" before the actual game, the advertisers don't even need a TV ad to tell the viewers to go online for those "banned" ads.

I do remember seeing a couple that were cute and got me laughing, but I can't honestly tell you what they were even about now that it's the next day.

I liked the Dorito commercial.  I thought the dog monkey baby commercial was a little disturbing.

after reading some of the responses here, I'm glad I didn't watch the Super Bowl.  I watched the "Kitten Bowl" and it was hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!

pretty much the only good commercial was the doritos one in my opinion...the halftime show really wasn't worth watching either.  very disappointing.

A couple of the ads I thought were funny and some  were not really very good. they seemed to lack a lot this year and as far as half time I got up and left. first you could not realy. also I wish some of the stars they have on there would wear some clothes afterall you have kids watching.
l hear them and the rest I was not impressed at all. Thought it was a good time to wash up after supper.
