Can you make Crepes?
« on: February 02, 2016, 08:59:50 am »
I don't have the special frying pan that prepares crepes. I love crepes. My grandma would make crepes as pancakes instead of the fluffy kind. I really only order them at the restaurant. I like them stuffed. Do you like crepes? Can you homemade them?

My father in-law makes them during the special holidays like Easter evening and sometimes around Thanksgiving morning and Christmas mornings. He has the Frying Iron that he uses for cooking them. The only problem for me is that I need to eat 20 or more to fill me up. We used powdered sugar, chopped strawberry, and whopped cream for fillings.

Too wimpy for me and I don't want to eat 20 of them. I would rather have a 5 egg omelette stuffed with sausage and mushrooms and smothered with salsa.

I can barely make pancakes, so I can't imagine me attempting to make crepes. But....if I can make an omelet, maybe I could.

Never made them, but I do love them.  I think you have to have a special pan.

I tried to make them once and made a horrible mess lol.  Now we just order them at restaurants when we want them.  Love them stuffed with cream cheese...or we have had them with grilled chickened and cheese.  They're awesome.

I may be wrong, but I believe that waffles, pancakes and crepes all have the same recipe (or at least very similar). However the batter is much thinner with crepes. So for instance, to make pancakes you need everything in two's! 2 cups of self raising flour, 2 eggs, 2 cups of milk, 2 splashes of olive oil or sunflower oil. I also add 2 tablespoons of sugar. Whisk it all together and the result will resemble a slightly lumpy (which is ok) wallpaper paste! So to make crepes, you just need a little more milk - say another half cup/1 cup. I don't think you need a special pan - I just use a cast iron fry pan which retains the heat really well. I use a little oil which is 50% butter, 50% olive oil. Voila!

I've never made them before but have always been curious about them. I wondered is there anything different or more special about them than pancakes? I like a thick stack of pancakes.

No, I can't make crepes.  Have never tried to or had a taste for it.

I've never actually had a crepe before. I would love to make some and get them at a restaurant someday.
