I'm just started to use Chantix myself about three weeks ago.  I'm still craving a cig, but it's better than cold turkey.

I got a free sample of nicorette gum in the mail, it came with 32 pieces. They suggested to chew like 6 a day, but I only chewed it when I wanted a cigarette. I was really trying to cut back in stead of fully quitting, but it WORKED!!

PMZ928, My Son is 22, had the 'H' addiction for 2 yrs...along with other stuff. Hopefully he's young enough to get his life back on track, like you did. You did a great thing by realizing that life is more important than the high.

Day 4 of the Chantix...still wanting a cig. but not as much as I did without the pill. Still have a weird stomach...?
I know this is going to work.

jmdebb, Do you have any side effects? Good luck. Let me know if it's working.

I've never been a smoker but have quit dipping numerous times. Its more an oral fixation for me than an addiction. I just buy alot of gum and chew til my gums and jaw hurts and ride out the nic fits

jusu,

So proud of you!  Keep going.  My stomach never bothered me, but I think it is made of cast iron.  I was very sleepy though.  Remember, the withdrawl alone can make you feel kind of sick anyway.  Best of luck!  Keep fighting.

Thank YOU for the support and encouragement. It's getting better. I know what you mean about the sleepy thing. I'm so happy that I'm doing this. I'm not thinking about smoking as much as I did. I'm almost to the point where I forget about it...

Quitting is so hard.  The patches worked for me awhile back.  I quit for 2 weeks.  I get anxious thinking about quitting!

I am glad that I never smoked a cigarette in my life!  My daughter has Chron's disease and the drs all tell her that cigarettes are a death sentence for her Disease...but she continues to smoke...it is very sad for us to see.

You have to either get some type of medical help or just have some strong will power and tell yourself that you are going to do it and stick to it!! Find a hobby to do that can take your mind off of smoking. Good luck!

just think of how your teeth and fingertips will become yellow and how messed up your lungs will become with every puff. after a certain point, your body wont need the nicotine anymore, you just have to wait it out until you reach that point

If you feel the sleepy thing hitting you, get up and get some fresh air or have a little beverage with caffeine in it.  Try to put off giving into cravings as long as possible (if you aren't quitting cold turkey) - go for a walk, take a shower, munch on raw vegetables, suck on ice chips, concentrate on something else and wait for craving to pass.  Stay away from places where you can smoke and if possible from people who do...and if you drink alcohol, watch out - the two seem to go together.

I CANT STAND THE SMELL OF CIGARETTES AND STAND THE PEOPLE SMOKING. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE DO IT ANYWAY. IT DOESNT DO ANYTHING FOR YOU AND YOUR BODY.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :bs:

I enjoy smoking and find it very relaxing. Who cares if it is healthy for you, what is? Besides you may have a man who cheats on you and will pass a deadly disease on to you and that doesn't do anything for you or your body :bootyshake:

Sorry I can't stand you and it is bad enough they took our rights to smoke in public places and wish people like you would shush up. :P

Sorry you hit a nerve

You dont have to understand just respect it

I am not sure what you were thinking when you asked to be respected after writing something like this.  Respect is a two way street.

Respect IS a two way street!  I find it EXTREMELY disrespectful for people to smoke in public places!  Plus, now there are studies out that are saying that in 11 different areas studied, since the ban took effect, there has been a 7-48% reduction in the incidence of heart attacks in those areas.
Aside from that, it's just gross.  I work in a cardiology office and I see people who have smoked for years-their fingers and fingernails are all nasty and discolored, their teeth look like they've been eating dirt, they smell horrible-even after just ONE cigarette, their clothes reek like OLD smoke.  Just yuck!  And if you don't think it's going to happen to you, just give it several more years.  That stuff will catch up with you too.  Freaking YUCK!!!!

Don't hang out with people who provoke your smoking.
