lance,

I respectfully disagree with you as someone who has actually researched addictions and I don't think the medical community would agree other.  It is generally believe that some people have a predisposition for addictions to certain substances.  That is why some people can drink one or two drinks a year and some people drink and can't seem to stop.  It can almost be compared to an allergy.  I am not excusing addition behavior in any way.  We are still responsible for what we choose to do.  If someone gets the dts when they quit drinking or druggiing obviously there is more at play than character.  I am just saying, I believe that a full blown addict really doesn't stand much of a chance of recovery without help, either from a strong support group or a medical professional.  Of course these are just my beliefs.

I CANT STAND THE SMELL OF CIGARETTES AND STAND THE PEOPLE SMOKING. I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE DO IT ANYWAY. IT DOESNT DO ANYTHING FOR YOU AND YOUR BODY.
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :bs:

I enjoy smoking and find it very relaxing. Who cares if it is healthy for you, what is? Besides you may have a man who cheats on you and will pass a deadly disease on to you and that doesn't do anything for you or your body :bootyshake:

Sorry I can't stand you and it is bad enough they took our rights to smoke in public places and wish people like you would shush up. :P

Sorry you hit a nerve

You dont have to understand just respect it

I think people like you are the problem to be perfectly honest. So smoke up kill yourself ! You are doing us a favor!  And I DO NOT have to respect a smoker and I certainly do not respect someone that acts like you just did!

I am not sure what you were thinking when you asked to be respected after writing something like this.  Respect is a two way street.

So, Dee-did you ever end up quitting?  I hope everyone here that was trying actually did get themselves to quit :)  Way to go if you did, and Don't stop trying if you didn't!!  The remedies are expensive and they don't always work, but don't let that stop you from trying them-if you spend a couple hundred on Chantix or Wellbutrin or whatever your doc chooses for you, it's better than the THOUSANDS you'd spend in cigarrettes over the next several years!

You just mentioned Wellbutrin and that brought back some memories.  Several years ago my doctor put me on Wellbutrin and I had to stop taking it.  I am normally a reserved, polite soul.  When on Wellbutrin I wanted to smack everyone in the face.  It was so strange.  I not only got mad at peope, I actually had an urge to hit them sometimes.  I can laugh now, but it was really disturbing then.  I just can't picture myself going to jail for violence.  Some drugs just don't agree with people that is why you need to closely monitor your moods with any drug like this.

Ever heard of sarcasm people?
She said she can't stand people that smoke so I said I can't stand people that can't stand me but yet everyone jumps down my throat ~ Whatever

I'm doing you a favor by killing myself? Whatever ~ Sure shows your character :o
You already showed your character and it is an unpleasant one. You choose to smoke and then jump on someone that doesn't like it. So as I said before smoke away!!!

:( Smoking is not good for your lungs. Your general health and the health of others is also affected. There are many programs that can help you quit, including skin patches. Talk to your nurse or doctor and see what they say.

I've never really tried to quit smoking, so I can't give advice, except to say I believe it would be like quitting anything else you are attached to. You have to want to quit bad enough to do it and do it for yourself. Not because someone else wants you to. I'd like to hear more about electronic cigarettes. This is the first time I've heard of them.

Samrhett2...I remember when I tried Wellbutrin--I felt the exact same way, the only thing that would calm me down was a cigarette, sort of defeated the purpose. Day 2 on Chantix and I'm feeling OK. I would never have had the courage to try them if you didn't put my mind at ease about the side effects. Thank You!!!

jusu,

Good going!  I can only tell you my experience and that nothing else ever worked for me.  I am also addicted to alcohol but have not had a drink in about 11 years.  Out of the two, I honestly think it was harder to stop smoking although I consider both to be accomplished by the grace of God and I am thankful every day!

dum dum lollipops! i know it sounds weird, but it helps with the oral fixation. they worked great after meals, at a bar or in the car when I'd normally smoke a cigarette.

I've tried to quit 3 times and I always started back.  I get around other people that are smoking and then I want one.  I guess I'll keep trying. :BangHead:

Funny just did a study with a research group, (I'm not suppose to talk about it); it’s about a law suit. I won't go into details but the case is about a person who has smoked cigarettes all of their adult life. The person contends that they are ill because of the smoke and the tobacco company has known that cigarettes are addictive and she claims that although she knew that cigarettes are bad for you she could not control the urge to smoke.

Got paid $100.00 to do it. Not bad 4 hours.

The first time I quit a guy at our church was teaching a class about quitting.  He told us to write down your smoking routine, and cut one of them out per week.  Example: I smoked one with my morning coffee, on the way to work, at my am break, at lunch, at my pm break and on the way home and then one or two before dinner, one after dinner and then a couple before I went to bed.  I started with te easiest ones first.  You can take as long as you want, by choosing only one a week or if you want to quit within a time limit, choose two or three a week.  It really works.  The second time I quit I found out I was pregnant and every time I lit up, I would get sick to my stomach, so I quit cold turkey, harder, but safer for the baby.
