MY EARS!!!!
« on: December 28, 2015, 06:54:58 am »
Oh for the love of God I pray someone on here can help. About a month and a half ago I had to take a flight while getting over being sick. When we land my ears were noticbly more clogged than usual. Later that night my right ear popped and returned back to normal- but the left one never did! It's been almost two months that ive been tolerating all the annoyances that come with a clogged ear, and it's not going away!! I went to an ear nose and throat specialist, he looked in, tested my hearing and he said he couldn't see anything going on! HELP!

I would probably go get another opinion from another doctor.  There is a home remedy it might work.  Get some Hydrogen Peroxide (any drugstore sells it). Lay on your side, closed ear up, put a capful in your ear, it should pop and hopefully open.  Good luck!

If you got no relief or help from the first doctor you saw, go to another one!
Have a wonderful day!

Don't forget to pray for your ear to heal. People forget that they can pray for their own healing.  :angel11:

Going to a second/another doctor might work best or ask your pharmacists what's the best over the counter medication for a clogged ear, if any.  Hope your situation gets solved quickly.

I agree, see another doctor.  The ear canal is not equalizing the pressure.  Same thing has happened to me after scuba diving and can be quite painful.  Decongestants helped me but take only if you are able to.  The hydrogen peroxide also works to remove wax blockages that can plug your ears.  Good luck and I hope that this gets cleared up for you.

You must have a damaged ear drum or something. I wish there is anything I can say to help but hope for the best and maybe give it time and it will be back to normal. Good things always come to those who wait patiently. It may not be tomorrow or the next day, but it will come eventually. God bless!

heard taking Benadryl may help especially at night. I've had plugged up ears with wax and an over the counter product helps not right away but in a day or so.

When I was in my early twenties I went on a flight, a short flight, and when I landed my ears were really clogged. I couldn't hear anything. Like you, one ear cleared up within 24 hours but the other didn't. After a couple of weeks I decided to see a doctor who told me I had a lot of wax build-up and that I needed my ears syringing! I made an appointment to go back in and my doctor cleared my ear up. It made an enormous difference and suddenly I felt everybody was shouting at me!  The process of cleaning my ears out was slightly unpleasant, my doctor squirted a water jet in my ear which cleared out the wax and made me really dizzy.

My son had that problem when he was young when we flew up north. We did so much to try to help him I can't remember what finally worked but it was physician recommended.

Lots of wax build up can also cause that problem. Syringing with a whole lot of water at the doctor's office helped my husband. He could hear little sounds after that. Previously at a wellness check, they said he had hearing loss in that ear!

If you do decide to see another ENT specialist, make sure they understand what you are trying to describe.... When people say their ears are clogged, they usually mean that their ear canal is plugged, usually with wax build-up. However the situation you are describing sounds less like a clogged / plugged ear canal and more like unequal pressure on either side of the ear drum. This pressure difference is usually caused by an issue with the person's Eustachian tube -- a tube that connects the middle ear with the nasal airway. Normally this tube is closed, but when there is an air pressure difference, like flying in a plane, the tube can open briefly to allow the air pressure behind the ear drum to equalize to the pressure in the atmosphere. However sometimes, esp. if a person has had nasal congestion from a cold or allergy, this tube becomes plugged with mucus, preventing the Eustachian tube from equalizing the pressure. Sometimes taking a nasal decongestant can help alleviate this issue. Although wax build-up in the ear canal may contribute to the Eustachian tube from working correctly, considering that you mentioned that you were getting over a cold (and thus presumably had nasal congestion), I think that the Eustachian tube is more of the culprit.

Try yawning lots and chewing some gum. Those are things that usually help me when my ears pop, but I don't know if they will help with your long-term issue. Good luck!
