Does anyone have a Macy's credit card?

I went shopping today at Macy's and the lady in front of me was buying $500 worth of clothing and was trying to use her Macy's card. When she swiped it, it DECLINED and she swore she had the funds. The cashier called to credit department and they said that she owed $4, so she paid $4 and the cashier re-rung the clothes and the card still DECLINED. I'm curious as to what the problem was.

I think that someone, must have swiped the cards, used it all up, and returned it to her, without her knowledge..

Sometimes a card can have a payment made but it still needs time for payment to process so the card will decline until that payment posts to the account.  Since it was only $4----she may have thought she paid the card off but still had $4 to pay so, they put a hold on the card until the payment clears.  Credit card companies can get really "uptight" even for $4!!

I don't have a Macy's card but have worked several years in retail & that would be my guess....

I used to have A Macy's card but it was years ago.  My guess was that she was in default for the charges long enough that her card was blocked or that even though she paid the $4 either her credit wasn't up to the limit of her purchases or the card needed to recyle before the charges cleared.  You have got to keep up on the cards or these things can happen.  Hope that she a) got it straightened out and b) that she could really afford $500 worth of purchases.

If she have the credit card, if she use over the amount they give her then is will decline how come they said she owe 4 dollars?  She need to call their department and find out though.
