Why do stores put up christmas decorations so fast?
« on: October 31, 2015, 12:39:05 pm »
I never understood especially when the Halloween decorations are still out and Thanksgiving is next month. Does anyone think that it's too much?

No, I don't. People start decorating for Christmas sometime in November. They are going to want to buy stuff before hand, so it just makes sense to make it available to them.

It gives people a chance to buy them early so some won't have to rush in December.

Ever heard the saying first come first serve? Well it's done to bring in early sales and avoid the competition.

I think it's ridiculous to put them up before Halloween has happened. I understand wanting to give them up afterwards. Thanksgiving isn't a big commercial holiday, it feels like it gets skipped over entirely.

Yes it is a bit much, one store I went in started to put out Christmas decorations in September! I guess it's all about the dollar and I suspect some people do start to shop, so I guess the stores are meeting the needs of the customers, I am just not one of them that starts to think about Christmas as soon as summer is over.

To get people into the spirit and buy from there store thinking that there are Christmas items up for grabs or just for the feeling making people go in to buy random items.

They have been doing this for YEARS and not just holidays. I remember when I was a kid being highly disgusted seeing Back To School commercials in late July, early August. It really used to tick me off, LOL...

They put out Christmas ornaments to get a head-start on making Christmas sales.  Frankly, I don't mind if they have Christmas things out all year, no matter what the reason is.

The stores start with the Christmas celebration in early July and it's all about Greed and the demand from their customers.   A few of the Holidays are totally ignored because of instant gratification.

As I have said before, a lot of it has to do with how much they have to put up and the time it takes. If they wait too long the decorations will not get sold. The employees can only work so fast to get them up along with their other duties within a store. The retail store I worked in had to do inventory at the end of Sept. before putting up Christmas. But the large trailers would already be sitting  at the store to be unloaded right after. Then of course we had to rearrange the floor to put all of it up and just to decorate the store usually took 2-3 weeks depending on how much there was to be done. So it is a time consuming just to get it done. I would work until midnight or later to decorate the trees as if I tried to do it during the day the rug rats would try climbing on the stair ladders which would make a person very nervous.  So it is to each his own how a person feels about all of it.
