I have a class
« on: October 23, 2015, 08:16:59 pm »
That I just hate taking in college.

Has anyone else ever had one of those classes they just hated taking? This term I have a critical thinking class. I actually failed an assignment because I came to a solution without using these step by steps. Like the teacher commented back saying I did the assignment right, but that they were docking me points because I "worked ahead of the class."

Another reason to hate it is when I email the professor, who prefers that form of communication, they're either a week late in response, or I have to post on the date due and they will post a day later. If I give them too much time, they never respond, if I don't give them time they're still late.

I didn't know working ahead was a bad thing.

Oh well. I'm getting a good enough grade in it that I don't really feel like fighting it. It's bad enough it's a required course and all, and I'd hate to retake it just because of something like that.

So I was just wondering if this is a pretty common thing in college, that one class with that one teacher where you're bashing your head into the wall.

I went to community colleges, and did have some classes I did not like taking. For example, there were two required classes that required students to do free lance work. Sort of a part one and part two type of thing. Students had to pass the first one to get into the second one. I wasn't working free lance and had no client(s) available. I received help finding a client, but she did not respond to my emails and I failed the class. I took it again ready to give up without trying but thanks to help from someone else, I got the client and information needed to class both classes.

Yeah for me, it would be any math and foreign language class.

I recall that there was always one class that was a pain. Always a teacher who's ego compelled them to make people's life miserable. But that is kind of the way things are throughout life. You will always have a customer that is a pain. There will always be changes at work that will be less than desirable or a boss that takes their bad day out on you. There will be that driver that feels compelled to cut you off or that person that parks so close to your car that you have to go in through the passenger door. I think that it is these little unpleasant instances that help us enjoy the good times in life even more. Without pain there is no gain? Life would be so boring if we didn't have challenges to sweeten the value of rewards.

As Winnie the Pooh is often quoted "Oh, bother!"

I took a class in college that I hated because it was so boring.  I failed it because I couldn't make myself go to class.  I took it over with a different professor and that worked.

I feel like that every time I take a college course. In fact, I am currently in a graduate school course that I have absolutely no motivation in taking (which is largely attributed to the increased workload at my job). I had to beg the professor for a one-week extension on a paper; the week is almost over, and I STILL haven't started the paper. Not out of procrastination, but mere tiredness.

There wasn't too many classes I hated in college. However, I hated the western culture class. It was so boring. You just have to focus on the work to pass the class. Best way to do it.

I think for me, now that I'm near the end of my term, is that it honestly felt like the professor didn't give a crap about the class. Like with the taking so long to respond to emails or questions, and then I started to notice they didn't even bother to change the powerpoint that came with the text book. I think I had more students asking other students for help because we responded faster.

I do understand our unpleasant things will always happen, I just guess for those who LOVE school, having that one class just really makes the term drag on. It's really a bummer. It's like, if the teacher doesn't wanna teach, then I really don't want to be in the class.

If that's ever happened before, please share. Other than that, it's kind of nice to know I'm not the only college student floundering along trying to find motivation for that ONE SINGLE CLASS.

Any tips?
