I am buying (again) because I cannot afford to rent! Rents for a 2 bedroom in Denver are over $1500 a month. I can buy a much bigger place for hundreds less a month.

It is kind of weird in Colorado right now. There appears to be a housing shortage.  I have five co-workers looking for houses each weekend diligently in the two hundred to three hundred and fifty thousand range and everyone is out bidding them for the houses as soon as they come on the market. Three houses in our neighborhood have sold for eighty thousand dollars more than they should due to over bidding. People are coming to the table with cash from houses they just sold. We have a neighbor across the street that moved in a year ago and over paid by fifteen thousand dollars.  He sold his house last week for twenty thousand dollars more than he paid for it.  Houses in our neighborhood are selling before they even hit the market. We have had people knocking on our door to see if we have any interest in selling within the nex twelve months.

I'm in Colorado also and my family is looking for a house. I can't get into too much of it but in short my grandma is trying to kick us out of the house we're in now, even though her and my mom own it together, but looks like we'll still have to move. Problem is we really can't afford anything.

I agree it's not easy buying a home that's perfect for your family always has to worry about how many rooms they have and the size of the house and most importantly the price. Bidding on  homes that are not even worth the buy. I think renting a apartment may be the best choice if not to wait a couple of years to buy a home it takes time even maybe a month or so and waiting for a call to know if you qualify  for rent2own.

I think the biggest problem for first time buyers is that, in order to get a reasonable rate on your mortage, you have to be in a position of being able to put 5% down on the loan. In our area, idaho, a first time buyers house is $150,000 and 5% of this is $7,500. How does a young person, wanting to buy their first house, come up with $7,500? Well, of course, they have to save up for it, which takes time. In that time they either waste money on housing rent or stay living at home with their parents. Either way, it's it takes time.

I hope they will be able to get a house someday. I am saving money still for that and I would like to get a 3br house someday in wasilla area. And settle down with my little girl.

I am hoping to buy my first house with my husband, preferably sooner than later.
Our issue is coming up with a decent down payment.

I would love to buy a new home and will on day. Cali has programs that help young buyers and new buyers.
