Fantastic Four movie

Apparently this film has so infuriated fans, a petition has been made to try and convince Fox to sell the rights back to Marvel.

I frankly couldn't agree more!

Does that mean marvel was not responsible for this movie? Most of the marvel movies I have seen have been great although I did not seem interested in this one from the previews.

Well, it's a long story but since you asked...

Back in the 90's Marvel was going bankrupt, so to keep the ship afloat, Marvel optioned off several of their popular characters to various movie studios. Sony got the rights to make Spider-Man & Ghost Rider, Fox got Fantastic Four, Daredevil & the X-Men and Universal The Hulk.

Eventually, the options will expire if a film is not made in a certain number of years, that's how Daredevil,Hulk & Ghost Rider returned to the Marvel fold.

Marvel eventually created their own movie studio to make the films of characters they still had (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor) and those are the actual "Marvel movies" since they have sole control over the production of the movies. In time Marvel sold the studio to Disney, but still retained the creative reins.

As of now, Sony has struck a deal with Marvel/Disney to work together on an upcoming Spidey film set within the "Marvel Universe". Fox however, has refused to play ball with Marvel so far and made this recent Fantastic Four film solely to keep the rights.Which they now retain for another 7 years or so.
