Lol.... First off i don't think you can sue the store. they are not responsible for your window... and secondly.. i'm sure they are more than willing to co operate with the police as they probably have security camera's around to help catch the perp...

I would be mad yes but i don't think there is any point to really freak out unless the person is there sitting in your car............ I would more of the lines be worried as to why they broke into my car.. what have they stolen.. that sort of thing..

I don't think you could sue the store for damages in a parking lot, that is what your own insurance is for.

I would be upset.  I would not sue the store.  I would talk to the manager if the store was big enough to have security cameras that could provide a view of what happened or if they had security patrolling the lot.  In any case the police would have to be involved and a report filed.  Insurance will probably fix it.

Did this happen to you?

I'd be mad as hell.  A few weeks ago someone broke my drivers side mirror.  I parked far away from everyone for a reason.  They said they broke it  with their hip when they were walking past it.  why is someone walking that close to my car when there were no other cars around I don't know but I was sure mad.

Well, I would find out who did it and then I would bash their skull in just like they did to my window.

You cannot sue the store.  Their security is to protect THEIR store. Not your car.  Your car and what you leave in it is your responsibility.  They are not responsible for the cars parked in the parking lot.  Yes I would be upset but I would not "go off" in the parking lot.  I would however call the police and file a report.

I also am curious as to if you left a laptop, ipad, purse, something of value in plain sight???  That is just asking for trouble.

You would bash their skull in?  Seriously?  So you would go to jail for the rest of your life over a broken window?  And if you "bash their skull in" you WILL go to jail.  It's just a frickin window.  You, if you are responsible, have insurance and the window can be fixed.  And if you have any sense you won't leave anything really important in plain view in a car in a parking lot.

I'd call the police and then my insurance company.  I don't think you would have any legal grounds to sue the store.  They are not responsible for accidents that happen in their parking lots.
Have a wonderful day!

I would call the cops, talk to the store manager too see if they had it on tape.  This happened to me one night after work and it was late, I and 3 other managers walked out of the store about 10 pm and my tire had been slashed and the back window broken on my little truck. Man I was upset. But my boss stayed with me  while the cops got there and then drove me home. first we limped it over to automotive so it would be there the next morning Who it was ever it was tripped me off also. Security had a picture of them but it was too dark and grainy.
so they never caught them. I was so thankful that so one stayed with me.

Definitely file a police report at the scene.
You'd have to prove the store was negligent in the safety of your car, if in fact they own the parking lot property, for them to be liable.  This is not easy to do.   They should have cameras though, so you should be able to see what exactly happened to your car.

I wouldn't even file an insurance claim if the window isn't to expensive to fix.  The insurance company will jack up your rate next renewal.

I'd call the police right away even though it probably would not do any good.  At least you'd have the police report for the insurance company.  Don't think it'd do any good to try to sue the store.  It wasn't actually thru any fault of theirs that your car was damaged.
