Justice?
« on: July 17, 2015, 12:53:48 pm »
Well, amongst all the tragic news about the shooting in TN, the jury convicted Holmes of the shooting in Aurora, CO...in 2012...hard to believe that was 3 years ago...and I just heard that the trial for the SC Shooter will begin in July 2016...almost a year from now....crazy how long it can take for "justice" to occur

Justice doesn't stop there: guilty (and Innocent) people can file appeals, seemingly, on a consistent basis. One of my dear friends had a sister that was absolutely brilliant and was one of the first women to get invited into the citadel (decades ago). On her second night there she was murdered by a drunken officer. The military police and civilian police showed up and the blood stained murderer fully confessed (after being read his rights) to the murder and all evidence was well documented.  The murderer held on to his story of guilt and was sentenced to death (no attempt at insanity plea). After five years of living in prison the murderer decided that he enjoyed prison, did not want to die, and filed an appeal. He files an appeal every two to thre years and each time the victim's family is dragged into court causing perpetual torture.  Justice, you say?

Yes TRes...ya just gotta know how to play the game in this world.

If we or our loved ones are not affected by 1 of these SICK acts time will go by and it will get easier to dismiss,of course until the next one happens which nowadays they dont seem too far apart!

So you can take your gun laws, flag burning etc

Man will continue to dominate man to his own injury

I know it's crazy that it takes so long, but I guess it is a good thing in a way too, if they are guilty the state has time to get as much evidence as possible and if they are innocent the defense has the chance to also collect as much as possible.

Justice?  Being found guilty does not mean justice will be served.  And no matter what they give him then he will appeal.  Even if he did receive the death penalty he won't be put to death.  He will die of old age in prison on death row.  There is no justice for the victims in the United States.

Being found guilty doesn't mean you're guilty either.
There has been a recent spate of people-old men now- who have been in jail for 30 to 40 years- being released because they weren't guilty.
Some of them, the prosecutors knew weren't guilty, charged them anyway.  Or withheld evidence that exonerated them.

I don't understand how waiting an entire year falls in line with the Sixth Amendment, which entitles defendants the right to a speedy trial.  Makes no matter whether we think he's guilty or not, no one should have to wait an entire year for their trial to start.

You have the right to speedy trial, but that doesn't mean you actually want one. Holme's defense team was the ones asking for the delay in this case.

I didn't say he wasn't.
But there are always questions.

For instance, what set him off? Why would he do something like that? Drugs? Alcohol? Brainwashing? Or just plain meanness?

They have a whole lot of time to think about what they did and still probably feel absolutely no remorse for it.

I don't care what set him off.  It's like the shootings in Chattanooga.  I briefly saw a snip on yahoo that said he was depressed.  I didn't read the story and am sick of seeing his stupid face.  I don't care if he was depressed.  He should have killed himself and left the 5 plus people he shot alone.

So the guy that shot the people in the movie theater - if he was depressed - who cares.  KILL HIM!  There is no excuse for shooting a bunch of people.  And then saying "oh I was depressed".

If someone is truly wrongly convicted of a crime, and yes that has happened, then that is a different story.  But there are also cases where a person is guilty and everyone knows it but the guilt can't be "proven" with physical evidence so they walk free to do it again.

An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.

I do care what set him off.
And killing him won't stop the next one.

Like Dylann Roof, who sat in a church for an hour, and then killed 9 people.
Should he have been strung up and hung on the courthouse steps?
