Father's "Wise" Words
« on: June 19, 2015, 08:25:34 am »
It's nearly Father's Day and I got to thinking about some "wise" words my dad use to say. I recall him doing some decorating in my bedroom and suddenly he put down the tools. I asked where he was going. He responded, I need to go to the hardware store to buy some sky hooks, a bubble for my spirit level and some polkadot paint! It took me many years to realize what he said and I'm sure he had quite a giggle to himself. Did your Dad have any "wise" words for you growing up?

My Dad told me I should learn a trade because I wasn't smart enough to go to college.  Since then I've earned a BA, BS, and a MS degree.  I have 3 different professional licenses and run a behavioral health clinic of 90 plus staff.  Perhaps his words pushed me to go beyond what I would have done. Who knows.

My father worked for a dental supply company and told me that dental hygiene was a good field for a woman to pursue.  So from the time I was little, I always responded, "dental hygienist" when I was asked what I wanted to be when I grew up!  My dad died when I was sixteen, and since I couldn't think of anything else I'd rather be, I went to dental hygiene school, graduated, and practiced my skill for thirty years.  It was a great job, and I'm glad my dad gave me such good advise.

I am sad to say I can't remember any wise words my father told me.  I was 2 years old when my dad died. :crybaby2:

That's a great question and I am SURE my dad said some very wise things. I'll have to think about that today and reflect on those! Happy Fathers Day to all those great men out there!!!

The best advice my father have me was don't expect anything and you won't be disappointed.

“At the end of the day, decisions have got to be made by adults, not teenagers, but it has got to be made in such a way that when the teenagers become adults, and they look back on these decisions, they will be proud of the generation that went before them.”
