Let's say you borrowed someone else's iPod (or multimedia Walkman) and broke it, and you don't have the money to buy him or her a new or other gently used one. What would be your solution to this problem?

I think I would let the other person know, and try to work out some kind of deal if possible. Maybe I give that person a certain amount money at a time until they have enough (full or partial; whatever we agree on) to fix it or to buy a new one.

Find a way to buy a new one.  NOT a used one.  I would never loan my ipad to anyone other than my mom.  Why?  Because most people don't care for things especially if they are not theirs.  I guess I can see this more from the loaners point of view.  I would want a new one to replace what they took away from me.

It would also depend on the relationship of the person who broke it.  If it were my mom I would not expect her to replace it. I would know it was an accident.

If I borrowed anything from anyone and broke it I would pay them for a new one or replace it.  If I didn't have the money I would pay something every week until it was paid in full.

Well the first thing would be to confess that you broke it. Then the next thing would be to be honest and tell them you don't have the money to replace it. But you will be willing to pay the so much a month until it is paid off.

First I would ask the owner whether she or he has insurance coverage for the item. If the owner doesn't have insurance for the item, then I would have it fix. If it can't be fixed, then I would have to purchase it back for the owner.

First be upfront about it.  If there is a warranty on it, see how much it can be fixed.  Otherwise work out a payment plan to pay them back for a new one.

I would save up the money and buy the person a new one.
