GAPS Diet - Gut and Psychology Syndrome
« on: June 14, 2015, 01:30:41 am »
Have any of you heard of or experimented with the GAPS diet?

I understand that it's a way of eating where you heal the gut.  Some people deal with something called "leaky gut syndrome" where food particles "leak" into the blood stream and cause autoimmune reactions.

I like the idea that it's all about healing the digestive system.  I understand the beginning of the diet is about drinking meat and/or bone broth.  The liquid protein is supposedly very nutritious and healing because the amino acids have the potential to repair the damage.

Sometimes I take digestive enzymes with plain non-fat greek yogurt but I probably don't get as much protein as I should.

Any information or experience you can share would be appreciated.  Here's to our health!

Have a great day!

This is pretty much what I'm going through right now. I'm not following the GAPS diet but I'm doing a more relaxed version. I went to the doctor last week and she had me go on probiotics which has helped. I've done tons of reading on this so along with some dietary changes I've started taking glutamine and coconut oil as well. Glutamine is supposed to help heal your stomach and coconut oil will help kill that bad bacteria. The digestive enzymes are a good idea, especially with a probiotic. I can't have dairy so I have to take probiotic capsules.
