I've worked all shifts. Right after high school, I worked 3rd shift at a pen and pencil factory and hated it because I couldn't have fun like my friends. I either slept only after my shift ended and then was awake from noon to the end of my shift the next day or didn't go to work at all. I used to fall asleep at the molding machine and it cost the company over $10K at that time but I didn't get fired.
I then worked 2nd shift at a bearing factory. That was was okay, but it really crimped my evenings and weekends too. I quit there for my very favorite job in the '70s when our boss left us work any hours we wanted as long as we put in 8 hours. We were contracted to the government doing keypunch work for Medicare, Medicaid, and the old welfare system. My best friend and I worked 3 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. because of our kids had half day kindergarten in the morning, so we were there when they got home and our hubby's were there to see them off. Best pay for that era because we got a bonus for doing over 100,000 keystrokes a month and she and I hit that bonus every month. it was nothing to bring home an extra $250 (which was great pay back then) at the end of that month. That kind of spoiled me for the rest of my life.
When I was self-employed, I worked for hospitals doing medical transcription and since my plate was over-filled, I worked from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. a lot of days. When I "semi-retired," I only worked from 3 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. i was stupid to rely on a company and give up my personal accounts because wages dropped due to offshoring and they finally started laying off the American MT's, me included. I was forced to take early retirement and to this day, still trying to find another job, but guess I'm over-the-hill.
