Day jobs aren't always what they are cracked up to be either but I do get to see day light when i leave, so that's a good thing I guess...lol

Day jobs are the best.  Most people who have things have them in the evenings.  If you work a day shift job you can still do stuff in the evenings.

I use to work 3-11 in a factory and I absolutely hated it.  I missed so much.  When people have cook outs and stuff like that it is always in the evenings.  Or if there are functions of any type they are in the evenings.  When I was working that shift I didn't think it was that bad I don't guess but now I would hate it.

I always preferred working early mornings so I can enjoy the evenings.  Years ago, 3rd shift was my favorite but definitely not anymore.  I've NEVER liked 2nd shift.

I've worked all shifts. Right after high school, I worked 3rd shift at a pen and pencil factory and hated it because I couldn't have fun like my friends. I either slept only after my shift ended and then was awake from noon to the end of my shift the next day or didn't go to work at all. I used to fall asleep at the molding machine and it cost the company over $10K at that time but I didn't get fired.

I then worked 2nd shift at a bearing factory. That was was okay, but it really crimped my evenings and weekends too. I quit there for my very favorite job in the '70s when our boss left us work any hours we wanted as long as we put in 8 hours. We were contracted to the government doing keypunch work for Medicare, Medicaid, and the old welfare system.  My best friend and I worked 3 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. because of our kids had half day kindergarten in the morning, so we were there when they got home and our hubby's were there to see them off. Best pay for that era because we got a bonus for doing over 100,000 keystrokes a month and she and I hit that bonus every month. it was nothing to bring home an extra $250 (which was great pay back then) at the end of that month. That kind of spoiled me for the rest of my life.  ;D

When I was self-employed, I worked for hospitals doing medical transcription and since my plate was over-filled, I worked from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. a lot of days.  When I "semi-retired," I only worked from 3 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. i was stupid to rely on a company and give up my personal accounts because wages dropped due to offshoring and they finally started laying off the American MT's, me included. I was forced to take early retirement and to this day, still trying to find another job, but guess I'm over-the-hill.  >:(

I have worked at least two jobs since I was fifteen years old (about thirty seven years).  Even when I was self employed I was running three corporations.  I generally live on five to six hours of sleep per night and crash for eight hours of sleep once every three weeks or so. When my business started to slow down I picked up a third shift job-which was absolutely ghastly.  It may not have been so horrible if I had only been working one job.  I agree with you on starting work in the middle of the day. That really would waste the whole day but I would make the best of it and work on the computer until it was time to go into work. I hit fifty four hours on my day job last week and I am at thirty eight hours on my night time job right now-I rarely see sunshine.

I work to live, but not love to work. My industry is very stressful, but at least it pays the bills. There are other professions I would be more open to do, but I don't have the luxury I feel to support my family. Of course, some life adjustments would help if I was to change careers, but I got a a family member who wants to live a certain way.
