Do you think it's good? bad? Should it be renewed/amended ?

With the way the world is going , my main concern is wanting to be safe.  I am doing nothing that someone can't overhear or read if they are protecting my safety, the ones I love, and my country in general.  Sometimes the rights of the individual must give way for the protection and rights of all of us.  This is one of those cases.

we have no privacy in this world anymore.  Everything we do is heard,,  watched, and recorded.  So if you don't want hulled in,,,,,,,,,,,,  don't do or say anything stupid.  its that simple.  Patriot Act ,,,,,,  doesn't matter,,  they are still going to watch and listen to everything you do.  So we just better get over it and live our "clean" lives  :)

I don't really care who, when and if somebody listen or watch me.They did all my life.I am from Romania so they did since i was born.Ceausescu took care of that so it doesn't bother me.I have nothing to hide. When i came into this country they knew everything about me and my family. Our life will never be "private".

We knew after 9/11 this is how we'd have to live in order to keep us safe, even if it's just a false sense of safety like some people believe. It's going to be like this for a long time.

That is a totally unAmerican way of looking at things. Like one of the Founding Fathers said, (paraphrased) "he who gives up freedom for security, deserves neither freedom or security." We are supposed to all be adults, and don't need a nanny state taking care of us. And no, the rights of individuals are not supposed to give way for the protection of everybody. That's exactly the opposite of the way this country was founded.

Parts are good. Parts are not good. The individual rights that are taken away are what leads to other rights to be taken away. There are reasons why we should do everything to find terrorists. BMaston12

Well, there some things I can agree with and some things I do not agree with some of the things from the patriot act. I'd rather have privacy than anything else. But having privacy is not nearly impossible, not just the internet but also on mobile devices and landline phones.

I disagree with this.  I don't know what the Patriot Act is talking about but I do not agree with saying the "rights of the individual should be taken away for the good of all".  That has been used in arguments like gun rights, general privacy, and other things.  People say if you have nothing to hide then you should not care but that is not true.  I am not doing anything wrong and I have nothing to hide but yes I have a problem with someone monitoring everything I do or say ie all my phone conversations being recorded.

Here is the thing.  The majority of the country is drawing a government check.  The people living off the government are not going to "bite the hand that feeds them".  If you get a free cell phone, free money every month, free food stamp card, free medical, free rent, and anything else you want then why would you fight against the ones giving you all this.  People are lazy and do not want to work.  People are spineless and don't have the gumption to fight against corruption.  The thing is when we turn into a communist state all the freebies are going to stop anyway.  People are just stupid!  If people want to live where they are totally controlled they need to move to Russia!

I do not really know what to think, there are certain things that are good and others are bad, I guess if it is redone with a balance of the pros and cons then maybe it could work

To be honest the Patriot Act is not a good thing as it stands.  We don't need our government keeping tabs on honest, hard-working Americans.  We need to keep tabs on criminals and those who enter this country illegally under the pretense of wanting to become American but yet, deep in their hearts they are only wanting to cause chaos.

I think that it is ineffective, invasive, and a waste of tax payers money. As such I think that we should let it expire and not revisit putting anything in it's place. It is not completely without warrant as it does pay people for doing absolutely nothing but I would rather that my tax money be spent on education for children, food/shelter for the homeless and under privileged, and take a swing at eradicating disease and threats to our health. There was a study two weeks ago that had seventy people attempt to enter commercial airlines with weapons (knives and guns).  Less than ten were stopped.  So I am paying taxes, to sit in long lines of people, watching little old, blue-eyed grandmothers get  frisked (and have their tooth paste confiscated), while over eighty percent of weapon yielding individuals walk onto the plane.  Pass.
