Well, my opinion... I don't really care if someone is gay or not. I personally am NOT for it, meaning it's not my slice of pie. My son's godfather is gay. However, I don't understand why gays need a marriage instead of a civil union. Practically the same thing to the state. Marriage is strictly between man and a woman. Anyone reading this can hate me all they want, but this is still my opinion. On the flip side... some people just can't help loving someone who is the same gender. So, my opinion is obviously flawed. :(

I totally agree with it and completely think that allowing gay marriage could improve the economy - seriously some people would spend some serious cash if they could legally be married.  It makes me mad that religion is the sole reason the law cant be passed; separation of church and state was supposed to be a backbone of our nation to separate us from Europe.

Margaret Cho made an excellent point in her Beautiful special - most people who are against gay marriage either have no gay friends or would not be attending a gay wedding to begin with, so what is there left to be offended over?

Because giving someone what you deem equal treatment, but telling them they're to be separated from the rest of society and kept a minority is not equal treatment.  Separate but equal is inherently unequal (I hate repeating this so much, but it sums up the point well).

The optimal idea would be to get rid of marriage as a state institution all together and have nothing but civil unions for all couples.  But, of course, people would be opposed to legitimate equality for random made up reasons as they are now.

Nobody hates anybody for an opinion.  Hate contributes absolutely nothing to this world.  Proponents of gay marriage/rights in general are fighting against hate; I would imagine most of them make a conscious effort not to hate others or take part in prejudice, else they be hypocrites with no credibility to push rights for same sex couples.

I think it's fine. Why not let them get married? Who does it hurt? And why does everyone feel the need to stick their nose into the lives of others? If gays want to marry, why should someone else's morals stop them?

It is against the law and it probably will never be passed to marry the same sex. That's all there is to it, it's not allowed. There are a lot of things we are not free to do in America even though we are In The Land Of The Free. A lot of it seems stupid and people argue it non-stop but things won't change until someone with the power to do so makes it change. So fighting Left and Right makes no sense.

That's not "all there is to it."  Civil rights have been fought for in this country by dozens of minority groups throughout history.  If they just settled back and said "well, it's illegal, that's all there is to it," where would we be as a nation?  Correct, the same place we were in 1850.

i don't think it is Illegal to have a girlfriend/boyfriend of the same sex or even engage in Adult behavior ;)

But unfortunately you can be arrested for doing so in public...

(and please try not to buy the BS "they were trespassing" crap)

with them but as far as marriage it is just man and woman and if you read the bible that is how God intended it to be when he made Eve for Adam.

It also says eating shellfish is an abomination and to stone your disobedient children.

And someone will inevitably say "oh my, that's the Old Testament though, it doesn't apply to today."  In which case, stop acting like Genesis has any credibility then.

It should not be allowed it is against God and it is not natural. I once heard someone say "If being gay were a natural thing then you would see animals doing the same thing. I have never seen two male bulls tryin to mate. UGH

It is illegal to stone your disobedient children. I try to go by the bible and the laws of today's world to :binkybaby:
God says being Gay is an abomination to him
Gays can be together but the Government isn't letting them get married Yet :dontknow:

And why do you try to go by the laws and societal views of today's world?  Because it makes no sense to take a stance on something based on a 2000 year old book written by silly individuals stuck in a desert.  So why take a stance on homosexuality from that same book?

And we could go over exactly what the Bible says on homosexuality, but that would require you actually be interested in the conversation (if you are, I will gladly elaborate, but I can't be bothered to write out three or four paragraphs only to have somebody respond with three incoherent sentences).  What the Bible says on homosexuality would probably also end up supporting my view more than the view that "homosexuality is evil."  There's a lot of historical and social context in the Bible that people kindly ignore to suit their needs.

Your God has killed millions of people.  I prefer not to try to derive morals from a moral-lacking, bipolar fool who throws tantrums when things don't go his way (which he ironically has complete control over).

Once again, everything humans do is natural.  We are not outside of nature, we are a part of it...as much as any other living entity on this planet.  We cannot defy the laws of the natural world (physics, chemistry, etc.), which is what it would require for something to be unnatural.  Thus, humans are merely a puzzle piece of nature.  Anything carried out by humans is part of nature, as it can be no other way until we can circumvent the laws of the natural world.

Homosexuality and bisexuality have been documented in nature in over 1,500 species ranging from arthropods to primates.  Lions, elephants, dolphins, penguins...the list goes on.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexual_behavior_in_animals

Do a bit of reading before making false statements based on something another prejudice, ignorant person said. Whether you've seen it or not has no bearing on whether or not it occurs.

I don't see anything wrong with gay marriage really. I have a best friend who is female and is gay. She has a girlfriend and they are really happy together. They seem to love and care about each other more than most male/female married couples I have ever met. Although, I myself am an athiest, the religious beliefs on gay marriage don't effect me at all.

Since when did animal behavior become your moral compass? And also I volunteer at a place that takes care of hooved animals and HAVE SEEN 2 MALE HORSES GO AT IT. Therefore we can all conclude your statement is illogical and ignorant. NEXT CASE, PLEASE.

He says the same thing about people that get divorced, touch the skin of a pig, and work on the sabbath too. BUT HEY THOSE ARE ALL OKAY NOW CUZ THOSE WERE TEH OLD DAYZ!!1!!1!

There is a lot of naivety in this thread and I highly suggest all you people with stupid assumptions *cough*religion*cough* actually do some damned research before saying something that has been logically flawed for some time.

Ohohoh! i don't believe in God. Frankly, I believe any higher being is just a crutch in life and, frankly, stupidity. Did I also mention I'm gay?

Guess i'm going to hell, along with a few thousand dogs I've seen...
