ESPN reporter rant (Britt McHenry)
« on: April 19, 2015, 07:22:21 am »
Wondering what others think about the Britt McHenry rant on a tow trucker employee. The insults thrown at the female employee were personally offensive and Britt came across as "I'm better than anyone", insulting the woman's looks, weight, education, etc.   Watching it I felt it was extremely hurtful and arrogant.   Glad it was caught on video tape.  She has been suspended by ESPN for one week and many are calling for her to be fired.    Some are saying this tow truck company has a shady reputation and that Britt's car was towed illegally.   Wonder if people feel the punishment of one week's suspension is enough or should she be fired.

i am not sure how i feel --if her car was towed with out reason yes i would be mad and would probably let them know it but as a public figure there is no need to degrade the clerk that way --calling names is a little kid thing and she is suppose to be a adult --and for the whole thing to be caught on tape --this will always hang over her head now --just a sad situation

I saw that and couldn't believe she reacted that way. Being frustrated is one thing but she was just down right mean. What got me was the whole "I'm on TV" thing. Because honestly I hadn't heard of her until this incident.

I do agree in that I would also be angry if someone towed my vehicle however I would not be so rude to anyone dealing with my complaint. Whilst a customer is always right, it does not mean you have the right to be spiteful and nasty. I would make my point but I would remain utterly civil and respectful. If I felt they did not grasp my point, I would simply resolve to never use them again and I would share my story. In light of how disrespectful she was, she should be fired.

I've never felt the need to berate another human being, especially for my own stupidity.   It says a lot about her as an individual.   People would kill (figuratively, not literally) for her job, she would be so easily replaced by a plethora of other pretty people trying to make it in the biz  (I live in Los Angeles, there are tons).   IMHO, she should be fired & replaced by someone who shows more respect for the treatment of people in customer service & for the regular joes who had their cars towed, why does she think she is better than them.   It's the personal attacks on the customer service worker that I can't get over, makes me sick.   Really she needed to go off on her weight, her job, her teeth...  way overboard.  Poor representative of a professional correspondent for ESPN.

It's like that Reese Witherspoon "Do you know who I am" to that cop who pulled her drunk husband over while he was driving.   Like she should be treated special because she is on television.....please.

I agree that what she did was horrible, and really shows her true character. However whether or not she should keep her job should be up to ESPN alone. If ESPN feels that this will tarnish their own image, then they'll release her on their own. There is no law against people being a jerk, nor should there be one if we hold freedom of speech as a national value of our country. I'm a little surprised that other businesses aren't threatening to ban any advertisement dollars to ESPN while she is still on their staff, while at (nearly) the same time businesses seem to be lining up to threaten states that want to enact their state version of the federal religious freedom bill. Sometimes the hypocrisy of these businesses is laughable (if it wasn't so SMH sad).

I get being pissed off but what she was saying to the person was down right degrading.

True colors come out when under pressure.  I think she should be demoted to a desk job.  I mean everybody needs a job. But she clearly does not belong on tv as a reporter or anything else. She can't be objective. True colors!!  :rainbow:

No one has the right to berate and humiliate another person no matter the circumstances.  I'm sure the lady on the receiving end had nothing personally to do with the towing of the car.  I would have been tempted to shut her mouth for her.
Have a wonderful day!

I know she was probably really frustrated.  However, her disrespectful behavior made the situation worse.  We are human.  Not one of us is perfect.  Everyone makes mistakes.

She was rude, but to claim she can't be objective because of that is just asinine. This incident has absolutely nothing to do with her ability to do her job.
