Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was found guilty for the part he played in the Boston Bombing incident.  During that incident, 3 people were killed and 260 people were injured.

A police officer was killed in the days following the attack as Tsarnaev and his brother, who also died, attempted to flee.

Should this individual be put to death?

What are your thoughts about the death penalty, in general?

Yes, he should be put to death.  My thoughts in general about the death penalty is that I live in a death penalty state.  I think every state should have the death penalty.  Why should tax payer's money be spent to feed, house, and clothe these individuals that have no regard for LIFE - ANY LIFE, including their own.  I can think of a million different ways the money could be used to BENEFIT the U.S. instead of house these cretins for the next 20-30 years while they continue to find a way to work with their terrorist buddies plotting the next terrorist attack.  PS:  This fool's "mother" (and I use that term lightly) calls the American people the terrorists.  I think they should off her, too.

I really wrestle with the death penalty.  I believe it is wrong to take an-others life, but I don't think serious offenders should be allowed to live either.   :confused1:

Ultimately, I believe that yes, he should be put to death. However, that seems like an easy way out. I think he should rot in tiny cell, with nothing but a small pot to use as bathroom, no contact with others, and just treated like the animal he is. But prisons are not like that. Instead, they give inmates internet time, social interaction, 3 hot meals a day, warm blankets, hot showers, etc. He doesn't deserve to live like that, therefore, he should be put to death.

I think I tend to be more critical than some other people and have no issues with applying the penalty. I don't they should have any leniency. What perturbs me more is that Death Penalty can be as much or more than keeping a person live in prison. I do not like how complicated our system makes sentencing and applying the sentence so expensive.

But you can't do that.  He has rights.  You can't put him in a small sell with a "pot" to use for a bathroom, deny him food, interaction with others, blankets, showers, etc.  The system is screwed up.  If you are going to treat him like that then you need to just kill him.  It's not an easy way out.  Someone who commits horrendous crimes like this are most likely not saved.  Hell is not the easy way out of anything.

In general, I don't like or believe in the death penalty.  DNA is providing proof in some cases that a person has not committed the crime they have been found guilty of.  Nonetheless, in very serious, violent, horrendous crimes where there is an insurmountable amount of evidence that the person is guilty, the death penalty should be applied.  The vast majority of inmates are guilty and the amount of people that are being supported in a manner they don't deserve is at critical levels. Criminals often have too many rights, with years of appeals that the taxpayer funds, while the victim has few. This picture is much too lopsided.

Where a person's attitude, background, and crimes support rehabilitation, let's get busy doing it.  Counseling, education, and skill development I don't mind paying for if it proves that particular person does not go back to jail and becomes a law abiding, tax paying citizen. Non-violent criminals need to be in the community (with guards) performing much of the labor that is needed, from picking up trash, to painting over graffiti, to tearing down inner city abandoned buildings.  There is no excuse that some of our highways and city lots are in the condition that they are.  If they don't want to participate, then perhaps they need a few less privileges and meals.

He'll probably sit in prison for years on appeals at taxpayers expense like others currently on death row.

If he has been proven guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt then the death penalty should be applied. Giving a life sentence only serves as a reminder to the victim's families every time they get dragged into the numerous appeals that occur after one has been in prison for a long time (and at such a young age). We have a friend who's sister was murdered. The soldier that did it admitted his guilt and did not change his story for five years. At that time he began to file for appeals, venue changes and proclaimed his innocence stating that he did not know what he was saying when he was initially, and subsequently questioned. The family gets dragged back into this horror show every three or so years and have to relive their loss.
