I'm trying. My mom's grandfather never talked about his family and I've been searching since 1995 for his family. His ancestors supposedly owned a well-known, now national, park but I debunked that.

On the rest of my mom's side, her family was well-known locally, but I've not found any connection with royalty or $$. If I could just get that link to the grandfather and his great-great grandfather, I could probably get them back to 1635.

On my dad's side, one family came to this country in 1709 and there are 3 churches and a town named for his ancestors locally who were here at least that long, too, but so far no royalty. Got a Senator on that side.

On my husband's paternal side, it's been hard but his dad was called to England back in the '70s because someone died and left money to all the heirs. How rich did he become? Well, after they divided it up between heirs, he came home with $10.  :) The ancestor was supposed to be a well-known professor of archaeology or something, author, and what-have-you. I haven't touched his maternal side because the name is so common in S. Wales, that I don't have the patience to weed through them all.

I'm still looking but personal problems have come up needing my attention so I really don't have a lot of time anymore.

Yes, I'm related to Albert Gallatin the Sec. of Treasury under Thomas Jefferson. He was the one that financed both the Louisiana Purchase as well as the War of 1812 all while trying to reduce the national debt as the Jeffersonian ideology suggested that an uncontrolled debt would hurt the young country. Many people and things were named after this great statesman (eg AG Edwards, Gallatin Bank in PA, the Gallatin River -- a tributary of the Missouri, etc.) and there is a statue of him in front of the North entrance of the US Treasury building. I sometimes joke that he is on the $10 bill, referring to the statue seen on the backside of the bill, but I'm guessing that the statue is actually of Alexander Hamilton whose portrait is on the front of the bill and who also has a statue in front of the Treasury building except that it's on the opposite, South side.
