Did you check with the person who prepared your tax to find out what happened to the missing money.

The IRS can withhold part of your refund if you have certain debts. Do you have any taxes/loans/child support/etc. that you owe that are past due?

If it is exactly $1000, do you have a kid that would have turned 17 during 2014, and the IRS may have taken away a child tax credit?

Unfortunately the IRS has reached the point that they feel they can do whatever they want with nothing happening to them because they are so powerful.  I would advise you to not pay anymore than you have to during the year so they can't keep what doesn't belong to them.

This is why I do my taxes myself so that I know exactly what I am getting back. Giving it to someone else to do always seems to be a risk especially if your not there to see what they are doing. I use Turbo Tax which I have been using for the past 5 years and I have had no trouble with them at all. Something to look into

Writing a letter to the IRS would be less frustrating than calling the IRS. You will be put on hold for the rest of your life.  >:(

Send a well-written, non-angry letter by certified mail with your contact information to the same place you sent your return and see if you get a response.

Boy, I'm sorry. That must have been really disappointing for you.  :'(

The IRS will send you a notice with the reason why the refund was less, but if you want a quicker answer, you'd be better off calling. Even when writing a letter in response to an IRS notice, they won't even respond for at least 6-8 weeks. I have doubts that a general letter would even get a response.

Keep it single 0 do not change it to married anything cause they will take less taxes out and at the end you might have to owe when you file your taxes

You'll get a smaller refund, but you will get more with each of your checks. If you are getting a large refund, it would be best to switch the withholding.
