Are friends really expected to do whatever a friend ask them to do. Are you supposed to get mad at them if they say no. I'm not talking criminal acts or breaking laws.

Real friends don't expect that stuff.

Real friends would not ask you to do things you probably wouldn't want to do.

I agree, a real true friend would never ask you to do something you have no intention of doing.

People's expectations of others is what gets them in trouble. If people ask and you say no they have no right to get mad.

Well, you would have to be more specific.  I have been asked to do things I did not really want to do.  Sometimes I do it and there have been times I did not.  Some things are time consuming or just hard work or just something you are not comfortable doing.

No, I don't think somebody should get mad at me for not doing something they want me to do.  For example, I am in jail, I realize it is 3am but can you come bail me out" lol.  Uh nope.

But at the same time I have actually when I had surgery had who I thought was friends ask 'do you need anything' and the only thing I needed was somebody to mow yard.  And then I said that they would either say 'well if you need anything let me know' or ignore what I said.  So yeah I got upset about that.  I had one woman say her son would mow it but I had to pay him.  Well since I had missed a couple weeks of work and would miss a couple more I am not sure how she thought I would come up with the money to do that.

So I said screw it and let it grow.  When it was about a foot tall I still was not able but tried to do it myself with ONE arm.  After a couple of hours with my neighbors watching one of them finally came over and helped me.  Smh.

But it really depends on what you are talking about.

Not true.   Most of you are assuming it is something bad.  Another example from my past....
I moved about 10 years ago and asked several people to help me and when it came down to moving day 3 people showed up.  All family members.  One of which was my elderly grandfather. None of the supposed friends.  A couple said they would help but did not show and did not answer the phone when I called to see if they were coming.  Some of the same people I had helped with major projects.  Then a few days after I moved had the nerve to ask me "when are you moving.".   So yeah, I was a little upset with them.

The OP did not say or even suggest it was something bad.  And even said nothing illegal like help me rob a bank.   A lot of people don't want to do something if it involves physical labor.

I guess I am more of the kind of person who thinks if you know somebody needs help and you can help them then you should do so.  Especially if it is a friend or family member.

No one is expected to do whatever someone else wants them to. A friend is supposed to give advice, suggestions and help if they can. Sometimes saying 'no' is helping the other person.

I don't expect my friends to do anything they don't want to do.  I expect honesty and respect.  That's all that can be expected.  They should be able to tell me know and have that answer be okay.  I should also beable to say no and have that answer be okay.

Friends are only human, like the rest of us.  We can't expect our friends to do things that may make them uncomfortable, even if it's not illegal.  Everyone has their limits.  Now, in cases of people falling in to hard times and they need some moral support, it's my opinion that if your friends can't be there for something as simple as that, then they weren't really your friends to begin with.

Real friends help if they can but if they can not then when no is said a real friend should understand.
