Understand completely because when my father-in-law passed away I found presents from multiple years for both him and my mother-in-law still in the packages.  Sometimes I don't understand people.  Oh well move on and don't worry about it. Bet they will spend the money lol  :moneymouth:

I guess it depends on what one's definition of "rejected" is.  For me, if the person accepted the present at the time they received it and showed appreciation for the intention with which the gift was given, I would consider that an accepted gift.  If the person was not appreciative or simply gave the gift back to the giver - that I would consider a "rejected" gift - one the recipient never took for their own, regardless of whether they liked it or not.

Once a gift is accepted, whether the person uses the gift themselves, stashes it away, or gives it away to someone else or sells it - that is completely up to them for they own the item now.  I wouldn't take offense, I'd just think that's an item they don't have use for and won't plan to give them similar items in the future.

I know I've received gifts like nice candles or candle holders and picture frames where at the time I didn't have a place to put them or pictures to fit in them.  So I put them in boxes and drawers until I have a place for them or a need to use them.  I haven't rejected those gifts, I simply haven't found the right place to use them yet, but have intentions of using them someday.  Perhaps this is what happened with your brother's gift - he still has it, he hasn't given it away - perhaps he still plans to use is, but now is just not the right time for him?

For the dog - maybe someone hid the bone for some reason and forgot about it, unless the dog was capable of hiding the bone and forgot it was "buried" there...

When I was buying gifts, I never had one rejected.  When buying gift you can't  buy what you like, you need to know what the person likes.  It works so much better.

I agree with kapeh12.    They accepted the gift, whether they like it or not, use it or not, they did accept the gift.  Your brother may not have a use for the item or he put it away and forgot all about.  (I have done that before)

Finding the gift a year later or like other people said have found items that they gave to people, would probably hurt my feelings too.

To avoid this, we give cash or gift cards or we ask for ideas and/or a list of things the people on our gift list want.

I don't want to buy anything for anyone that they don't want, like or need.  I also tell the person that they can feel free to exchange the item if it isn't what they wanted.  We give them that option by including the gift receipt.

I was cleaning  out my parents house before x-mas found x-mas presents from last I gave my brother last year! I felt so sad cuz I also found the large bone I gave my 4legged niece Sadie for x-mas hidden behind the bookshelf! If he didn't want them he could've just given them away! This year I just gave them a hundred bucks & I didn't even the dog!

You should re-gift them back the gifts this coming Christmas, 2015; if nothing else it would be funny to see their expressions, if they even notice.

I sorry you had to find out that way. I know I have had some gift that I have given that they didn't like. This happens so don't take it personally. I'm sure they were grateful, it just happens that they didn't like it. I know for sure that not all the gifts that I get I like. I either return them or give it out to someone I know that would like it with out them knowing. That doesn't mean I was not grateful to them for remembering me, I was I just didn't like what it was that they gave me. Hope this helps you to understand your situation.

Yea, that's  unfortunate. That's why I'm looking towards just giving gift cards sometimes.

This is why I don't give gifts to anyone unless it is a person who I really like. Just because you are related does been that is a good person. >:(

I am sorry that happened to you.  I know that it hurt your feelings.  I had a boyfriend one time that I bought him something for Easter, and he said it didn't want it.  He said that he couldn't buy me anything, so he didn't want to take my gift to him.

dislike the whole scene. it becomes a requirement even if you don't want to give something.

I can't imagine you you must feel.  I have never know of a gift I gave being rejected.  It appears cash is the best gift for that family member!
