Through the years opening gifts has changed to the point of diminishing as far as my giving goes.  Years ago I would drive to my in-laws.  On Christmas Eve we exchanged gifts amongst family.  Christmas Morning we all opened gifts from Santa and that was overdone as the entire family opened till around 1:00... the kids finished up than adults continued on sometimes until 8:00 p.m.  This year I gave my kids a puppy so he didn't require being unwrapped.

As a kid we opened gifts on Christmas Eve following the church service.

As we have grown up and moved away, celebrating Christmas with the family (parents) has changed through the years. We have celebrated as a family at Thanksgiving and in December on open weekends and in January.

Now, we don't gather together with the whole family at Christmas due to the shear number of people and the many generations that we cover.

My own immediate family is now grown up too.  We have varied work schedules and in-laws to work around to come up with a day for us to gather together.

This year, our Family Christmas will be December 27.

Growing up we always opened one gift on Christmas Eve, and that was usually pajamas!  The rest were for Christmas morning!

Always on Christmas morning.  When I was growing up we would open gifts from grand parents on Christmas Eve night and then from mom and dad on Christmas morning.  But with my own kids, we just open everything Christmas morning.  My kids are still young and aren't excited and anxious for gifts yet. Lol

We open our gift this morning, and we wait for each other to open together.

I open mine Christmas morning.  Tradition I like to keep.  I'll open extended family gifts later that day or whenever the family can gather together to celebrate and have our gift exchange.

We eat and open gifts at my mother-in-law's house on Christmas Eve.  Christmas morning is spent at home with my husband, daughter, son-in-law, canine son and grandpups opening gifts.  We spend Christmas at my parents' home eating and opening gifts.
Have a wonderful day!

We open the gifts from family, friends and exchanges on Christmas Eve, the "Santa" presents are open on Christmas day.  We had done that for years, especially when the kids were little, now that they have grown they even prefer to enjoy opening their presents on Christmas day after the party is over and they can enjoy the family time with us.

We end up opening about 3 days in a row at different places....more to come today. it is wonderful having so  many people to spend family time with even though they may not be family by blood relations.  :)

Mostly we have opened presents on Christmas day although when one of my wife's uncles was still alive we would open his gift on Christmas eve.  We knew it was always a "regifted" item so that's why we did it.

Growing up, we'd always open gifts on Christmas morning... I remember how excited my sister and I would get that we'd be up at 5am (or earlier) and impatiently wait for my parents to wake up (sometimes giving them a little "encouragement" to get out of bed that early). Now that we're older and have moved away from my parents, we'll open gifts whenever we have a chance to get together. Sometimes is on Christmas Day itself, but often it's over the weekend after Christmas, esp. if my sister or her husband have to work the day after Christmas (they live 4-5 hours away from my parent's house, so they only come down when they have at least a couple of days before they have to go to work). We've even been delayed till the spring one year when we had a blizzard during Christmas and everyone stayed home!
