Gender and colors

For so long pink was for girls and blue was for boys. Boys was supposed to not wear pink. Do you think that still applies today?

I think people should wear what they like.

No not necessarily. If a boy likes pink so what? Generally kids don't think as things as boy things or girl things, adults do. Kids like what they like. When I was growing up I played with barbies, had tea parties, ballet, etc. But I also loved the Power Rangers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and took karate.

I am a girl, and I hated the traditional girl colors - pink, yellow - can't stand them, never could.  Give me a nice royal purple!

My guess was the color coding of genders was probably some company's marketing campaign years ago which caught on - and as a result of what I call "The Monkey Mentality" - no one really knows where it started and as far as we're all concerned "that's the way it always was".

I say parents can dress their kids in whatever colors they like - and when the child is old enough to provide input into the colors they prefer, go with it.

Pink used to be considered masculine, as a level below fiery red, and blue was feminine. At some point in history, the colors got switched and remains to be that way today.

The children don't think the same we do when it comes to color. if a boy likes pink, there is nothing wrong with that.

I think it still definitely used today. Even with people trying to change it I see it everywhere.

Color coding by gender started as a marketing ploy in the 40s, to help retailers sell more clothes.

We've been manipulated by marketers ever since.

 I think anybody should have a right to choose the colors they like!

I think a lot of people continue to push that stereotype, but it has also been widely rejected. It's just a colour, and there's nothing wrong with liking or wearing any colour no matter what gender you are. If you're a boy and your favourite colour is pink, good for them. If you're a girl and your favourite colour is blue, good for them. Girls wear blue all the time, and always have so why can't boys wear pink? There's nothing wrong with it.

Now a days this should not matter. Wear what color u like. & yes I've seen guys wear pink & some look good in that color.

I recently searched for a shoe online but they didn't have my size shockingly they showed me one in pink for men, and one in blue for girls. We seem to have gone backwards somehow.

I think when they are really young the pink and blue thing works just so you know if you  are talking to a boy or a girl.  (It is funny how many people still ask you what it is!!!)

I've talked about this in my media classes. It still applies in society even though I feel it shouldn't be an issue.

Yes! It shouldn't matter to anyone what color(s) someone chooses to wear!
