Have you heard that the world is eating more chocolate than is being produced and that if it continues we will run out by 2020, especially because of the popularity of dark chocolate (which has more coca beans in it). One possible solution is to grow a variety that has less taste, but would that work for you? It would cut down on consumption, but could go the other way too far.

I wouldn't believe everything that's on the news.  It's a pessimistic point of view that goes no where with me.  It's like saying that, in the future, there will be no retirement income for senior citizens.  Occasionally, we also hear something bizarre, on the news, like....

water can cause cancer.  It's just plain silly to believe that stuff.
Have a great day!

Well, it appears we won't "run out" but a shortage will put the prices higher.  Can't vouch for the following link but it is interesting and does provide some supporting links as well (usually not found in hoax sites but I can't be absolutely sure) and puts the blame squarely on low paid and/or slave labour and the ability to grow more lucrative crops more quickly.

The link also gives 5 other commodities that we are running short on.  Again, not sure of the validity but all seem reasonable to me.  I've heard of the helium shortage before but I wasn't aware of how critical it is to our high tech functioning.

I read something about that.  I'm on the fence about this one; on one hand I feel like we could do without it (side effects include rotted teeth, high blood sugar and acne) but on the other it's a comfort food and some kinds are actually good for you. I guess we'll just have to wait and see; so many things are falsely predicted these days.

Well said I came across an article here in NJ and it wasn't true it was a hoax. But who knows people just like to put things on the internet just for fame.

I too would be lost without my special dark choc. my daughter owns a bakery and candy making shop and trust me the prices have gone up already for the holiday season quite a bit  :(

Here's a thought. I worked for Ambrosia Chocolate Company in the 1980's where I was told when I started that I could eat as much chocolate as I wanted while working there. I ate my fair share of chocolate for my first month and for the next 5 years while employed there I never ate a single piece of chocolate at or away from work. So to help the cause of keeping chocolate from becoming extinct, let's all eat our hearts out for a month and give it up for the next 5 years. As a whole, maybe we can make chocolate last until at least 2080!  :D :D

I' ve heard about the possible chocolate shortage and I, for one, don't believe it.  After all the media only tells lies and never the truth anyway.  LONG LIVE CHOCOLATE!!!!

True, I can't tell you how many times I've read an article on alarming news and it actually turned out to be a hoax.
