Why do people celebrate Christmas?
« on: November 17, 2014, 07:55:32 am »
Why is it that some people don't believe in Jesus Christ and still celebrate Christmas?

I am so sad my sister used to be a believer and now she can't even say the words "God Bless you, or Amen" I think my brother in-law twisted her mind !  >:( :'(

They say God is imaginary, ohhh but they do celebrate Christmas.  :present:

Oh, the sad truth that one day, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (not imaginary). Christmas, like every Christian holiday, has been twisted to have the "fun" but not the truth! =(

I know an atheist or two that celebrate Christmas and wonder why? Jesus is the reason for the season.

I meant to put this here.....
Yes, the Bible teaches that Satan the Devil is, indeed, a real person. Critics of the Bible, however, scoff at such a portrayal of the Devil. Satan, they say, merely represents the principle of evil that resides in humans.
Should we be surprised by the confusion regarding Satan’s true identity? Not at all. To illustrate: A criminal might wipe his fingerprints from a crime scene so that he may conceal his identity and thus continue his illegal activity undetected. Similarly, Satan is a criminal mastermind who is content to operate behind the scenes, promoting moral corruption. Jesus clearly identified Satan as the one responsible for the evil state of human affairs. Jesus called Satan “the ruler of this world.”—John 12:31.

Not everyone celebrates Christmas as the birth of Christ but as a time for family and buying gifts to show how much you love someone.  I agree with you.  But it is the same as Easter and people who celebrate it with egg hunts and candy and they don't believe in Jesus.  It's not about Him to them.

The Bible does not say anything about santa or rudolph.  That is the man made part.  Jesus is very real.  Whether YOU want to believe in Him or not.

I agree with Countrygirl12... People like to celebrate Christmas as being a time to spend with family and those that they truly love. Most people view holidays as a time for having fun, but may not keep the spirit of the holiday for which it was originally celebrated. For example, most Americans celebrate Memorial Day more as the beginning of summer having BBQs, going camping with friends and /or family, etc. But few actually celebrate it in the spirit of the holiday by visiting a grave of a fallen soldier, visiting a war memorial, etc.

Wise men, or Magi, led by a star
Those Magi were actually astrologers from the east. (Matt. 2:1, 2, NW; NE) Although astrology is popular among many people today, the practice is strongly disapproved in the Bible. (See pages 144, 145, under the main heading “Fate.”) Would God have led to the newborn Jesus persons whose practices He condemned?
Matthew 2:1-16 shows that the star led the astrologers first to King Herod and then to Jesus and that Herod then sought to have Jesus killed. No mention is made that anyone other than the astrologers saw the “star.” After they left, Jehovah’s angel warned Joseph to flee to Egypt to safeguard the child. Was that “star” a sign from God or was it from someone who was seeking to have God’s Son destroyed?
Note that the Bible account does not say that they found the babe Jesus in a manger, as customarily depicted in Christmas art. When the astrologers arrived, Jesus and his parents were living in a house. As to Jesus’ age at that time, remember that, based on what Herod had learned from the astrologers, he decreed that all the boys in the district of Bethlehem two years of age and under were to be destroyed.—Matt. 2:1, 11, 16.

And I suppose you haven't been conditioned by the Watchtower to believe everything they say?

We've gone over this a thousand times hitch. (And frankly I know it's an exercise in futility, but hey!Gotta make my 30 posts some way! :D) The early church set up the Christmas Holiday as a Rival to pagan celebrations.Christmas is about celebrating the birth of Christ. Our Lord  and Savior.Without His coming into the world, we'd have no reason for joy and could have no hope for eternal life. There is nothing Satanic about it.I don't honestly know how you can attribute satanism to a day reserved for celebrating the baby Jesus. You're really reaching into superstition there.

And I know you won't except it,but rather than go by the Watchtower's literature, here's God's Word to support what I said.

Romans 14:5-6
One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.
Romans 14:13-14
Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another. Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in the way of a brother or sister. I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean.

So you see,if you don't want to celebrate Christmas,it's fine. And if you want to celebrate Christmas, that's fine too. It's not mandated one way or the other in Scripture. What is mandated, however,is that you NOT pass judgement of those who seek to honor the Lord by observing a special day (Like the occasion of His birth!).

JJ every explanation The Watchtower puts up is backed up with Bible scripture.

I told you i was brought up a catholic.I didnt know any better. As a child i loved Xmas. When i discerned truth about it from bible it made lots of sense.

Jesus commanded to "Keep doing this in memory of me"Re his death on Nisan 14.He didnt ask us to celebrate his birthday.I am not saying it wasnt good and he was also humble to take on being a man,but the suffering and torment he went through being treated as a criminal takes on a HUGE command of his.

There is nothing wrong praising God for sending Jesus into this world but again if he didnt die it wouldnt mean a thing!!

You should really look into the paganism of 12/25.Also you see throughout bible how God feels about false worship etc.Satan transforms himself into an angel of light.Revelation says,"woe to the earth"after satan was thrown ot of heaven.Xmas is just 1 of many distractions satan uses to hide the glory and the truth about Gods kingdom thru Jesus.

I dont have a problem helping you get your 30 posts.

I actually ignored you a few weeks ago when you said "Happy all saints day"....Jehovah is a God of the living NOT the dead.ASD follows up the satanic ritual of halloween.

JJ i only am doing the research for you because you wanna use Bible to defend Xmas....you are very well mis-informed....

But in considering this matter, the main point is that the Christians did not look to these things for salvation. The apostle explained that certain things, such as the eating of meat or vegetables, the observing of certain days as above others, even the eating of meat that had been offered to idols before being put up for regular sale in the marketplaces, were matters of conscience. He wrote: “One man judges one day as above another; another man judges one day as all others; let each man be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day observes it to Jehovah. Also, he who eats, eats to Jehovah, for he gives thanks to God; and he who does not eat does not eat to Jehovah, and yet gives thanks to God.” Then he summed up his argument by stating the principle: “For the kingdom of God does not mean eating and drinking, but means righteousness and peace and joy with holy spirit,” and he concluded: “Happy is the man that does not put himself on judgment by what he approves. But if he has doubts, he is already condemned if he eats, because he does not eat out of faith. Indeed, everything that is not out of faith is sin.”—Ro 14:5, 6, 17, 22, 23; 1Co 10:25-30.
