I do agree that many Americans are expecting "CHANGE" to come overnight. That is just rediculous to think. Many are laying blame on Obama for not running to our aid the second he stepped into office. Well, if you REALLY pay attention, he has been TRYING. Obama did not create this mess, it began MANY years ago with Bush 1 and probably even before that but nobody really noticed the subtle changes. Clinton tried his best to fix the mess and did a pretty god job, but along comes Bush 2 to mess with everything again. I know people bashed Bush 2 but NOTHING compared to the nasty comments I have heard about Obama.
I agree that the bailout was nonsense and helped only banks and large corporations and did nothing for us common folk. I agree that AIG should not have been allowed to get MORE money time and time again after it was found that they were misusing the funds for company outings and bonuses. I agree Obama should keep his nose in our country's problems instead of trying to feed Africa. I agree that Obama should have postponed travel to places like Mexico when our country is suffering more now than in many years. I agree that he should not buy 16 new helicopters for the White House and the staff while the country is broke and starving. I agree that the "Cash for Clunkers" should have not been done right away, because it is taking valuable funds from other much needed programs that give children and the elderly the care they need. I agree that he has made a lot of promises that probably cannot become a reality in 4 years....or even 8 years for that matter.
HOWEVER, we must consider that just because he is President does NOT give him full power. The proposals must also be approved by the House, They have the power to veto any law or bill Obama brings before them. So before we start pointing fingers and placing blame on a single person, let's start writing the senators, congress people, governors, etc. of our states. They hold a lot more power than you may think. If they get flooded with letters from us common folk expressing our dissatisfaction,then maybe they will grow the cahonies to do something to help us for a change! I doubt that any of the people who can do anything about it are here in the FC forum, so complaining here does no good.
Give Obama a chance! We gave Bush eight years to put this country in termoil for petes sake! Why can we not give Obama more than eight minutes! Do you really thing McCain and Palin would be doing any better?? Come on! When you first began your career, were you able to do everything perfectly the second you walked through your office door? I know I couldn't!
It seems to me that a lot of people expected Obama to get a lot done in a short amount of time because of his darker complexion. To me that should play no role in his abilities, or lack thereof, to perform the Presidential duties. He is a man, with a brain, and feelings just like all of us. He is a brilliant man as a matter of fact and a courageous man as well. I am sure he knew even before running for office what was in store for him and he was willing to face those issues head-on to TRY to make a better life for all Americans. Does skin color really matter when it comes to politics?? Have we really become such a simple minded society to think so? OPEN your ears and CLOSE your mouths for a second and you may notice that the man is trying his best, but can only do so much. He can only control things that are in his power, and it is interesting to see how little power he really has. He is not perfect and he will make mistakes, but my focus is on getting my family and friends the help they really need in this time of crisis. I want to make sure there is food on my table and a roof over my head. Only I have the power to control that. I am certainly not going to sit back and wait for the government to supply those necessities for me. We must all come together and fight for ourselves. If you are out of work, do like my husband and I did when we lost our jobs, beat the pavement until you find something. If you see someone in need, help them the best you can.
I am certain this will cause a frenzy, but look at how the welfare system has been used and abused. I get so mad when I am in the line at the supermarket and a woman in front of me is sporting Gucci, Prada, and Louis Vatton from head to toe, but cannot afford food for her household. I am outraged that people have become lifetime recipients of welfare just because they are continuing to have children they cannot afford to feed. I am outraged that thousands, if not millions, of households receiving welfare CAN get a job, but choose not to because collecting a monthly check for nothing is so much easier. I am angry because I see children HOMELESS and cannot get assistance because resources are being used up on "lifers" of the welfare system! Look at how the social security funds have been dwindled to nothing. The elderly worked for many years paying in to the fund in hopes of collecting a portion of that back when they were able to retire, only to find out that people with NO disablilites stole that money away. Now you and I that are working are paying for the elderly's social security checks. Where does that leave us when we retire?? Look at the TRILLIONS of dollars of debt our country has gotten into. NONE of this started with the Obama administration.
Instead of placing blame where it is not due, place blame where it is due. If you see a man collecting disability, but he is able to cut down trees and chop up the wood REPORT him! If you see that lady in the supermarket decked out in designer clothes and jewelry, follow her to her expensive car, write down her license plate, and REPORT her! If you see someone capable of working, but sits on their duff making babies to collect a monthly check REPORT them! If you see someone living in a fancy house, driving a fancy car, and spending money like it's water, yet their child receives Medicade and/or food stamps REPORT them! One person cannnot stop this chaos alone. If you want something done YOU aid in making certain that it gets done! If we all work WITH Obama instead of against him, maybe CHANGE WILL COME!
