Have You Lost a Spouse?
« on: October 02, 2014, 07:37:14 am »
A lady that used to go to my church lost her husband, I think they were together for 30+ years.  I don't know her personally but I feel like I should send her a card.

I've never been that great at consoling people.

Is there anyone on here who has lost a spouse?

My question to you is if I were to write you a card what would you want me to say?

Send the card.....it is always a blessing knowing others can 'feel' your pain.

Thank God I have not lost a spouse, but send her a card that says lost of your husband and write something in the card.  You can say how very sorry you are for her loss, if you can do anything, etc.  maybe you could send some home cooked food for her as she is probably not in the mood to cook and that will be appreciated.  Just be there if she wants to talk but dob't push.  She is lucky to have someone like you who is caring, good luck.

Thank God my husband is by my side  :)

I would send her a card and tell her no words will heal your pain, but may the Lord heal your sorrow and let her know I am here not only for a shoulder to cry but anything she needs that I can help with, let me know.

Let her know her husband is in a better place, hmmm wonder how many people have told her that already.

Invite her for gatherings, dinner, shopping, to the movies, . .  so that she don't feel lonely. If you have a garden invite her over to see your garden ask her for ideas she might have. Things like that to help keep her mind off her sorrow.

Thankfully I have not lost a spouse but I'm sure just knowing that you care enough to send a card will make this woman feel valued. I don't think there is anything that you can say to make her feel better but your card will say you care.

I lost my spouse back in 1995. It was the worst thing that has ever happened to me. I loved him so much. My life has been empty ever since. Someone losing a spouse can be tricky though. Not everyone who experience this is - is sad the person is gone. So thinking along those terms try to be neutral.

No, I haven't lost a spouse but someone who I was a bridesmaid for lost her husband when he was in his early thirties. I just sent a simple card saying that I was thinking of her at this time and that I would wait for her to contact me whenever she was ready. It took a very long time for her to reconnect with her friends but she was in the unusual position of losing someone so close who was also very young. Sometimes it's just nice to know that people are thinking of you.

A sympathy card is always a nice gesture. If you do not know her personally, I think a card would be great.
