hot showers, soak in a hot bath with epsom salt in it.  there is also an otc spray called stopain that is really good.  gives instant relief to the pain when sprayed on. only problem is that it doesnt last for a really long time, maybe an hour tops.

Is the source of your muscle pain chronic or from doing activity you are not used to?  If the latter, I can recommend a preventative measure:  take aspirin and vitamin C about 30 minutes before doing something that might make your muscles sore-- the acid in those substances will neutralize the acid your body produces that cause the soreness.  If it is chronic pain such as arthritis, there are herbal remedies that some people swear by:  tart cherries or tart cherry juice, supplements with turmeric... maybe even the old standbys of glucosomine and chondroitin for joints (not sure I spelled these correctly).

MSM internally
Blackstrap molasses internally
Epsom salt bath soak
If it's from working out, consistently warming up cooling down and stretching as well as wearing compression sleeves helps prevent the cramps to begin with.

I think the key is shown in your question.  You are asking how to 'deal' with muscle pain.  Instead ask why you are having muscle pain.  That is the only way to get rid of it for good.  Everything else is temporary.

I suggest using a heating pad.  Acupuncture also works well.  I am sorry you are in pain.  I hope you are able to get some relief.

Rest and sleep and let your muscle heal naturally.

I do not like to take pills for my pain.  I do buy some pain cream and pain pads.

Rest the area, OTC meds, heat.  These are key. Most have already been mentioned.  However, you need to make sure it is muscles and know what is causing it.  Chronic or just occasional?  It makes a difference.

I mostly just cope with it and don't use anything because I don't really have anything at home to use.

It can vary from motrin to taking a hot bath. Some lotions actually work for me. Hot tea is also good along with a heating pad.

I just bear it and go on.  I refuse to get pain killers from a doctor and don't like taking Tylenol all the time.  Sometimes taking a hot bath will ease it up a little for a while.  Mostly I just hurt and go on.
