Militarization of police

Do you think there's been a bit of an overreaction about this from what happened in Ferguson?

Not necessarily over reaction, perhaps just a late response. Frustration from both sides was bound to equal the type of explosion of emotions. I just hope every one will learn something and we'll see a positive change, that actually lasts.

I can understand peaceful protest, but what I don't respect is the pillaging and destruction of businesses and homes

I think that the reaction occurred was over done. I can understand the racial tension surrounding a minority city governed by a non-minority police department.  It is difficult for me to condone the pillaging of businesses within the community. I was surprised that the media drew parallels to Trayvon Martin's case. The neighborhood security person in the Martin case appeared to be a minority with and Anglo Saxon name which is probably why the racial powder keg didn't explode in Florida. I think that the President and his staff didn't need to comment on the case as this was a local issue. I also think that the rioting was exploited by the media and caused injury to other country's views of America.

I think the entire situation was an over reaction.  The guy that was shot had just robbed a store, shoved and hit the clerk in the store who tried to stop him, and hit the cop who asked him to get on the side walk hard enough to shatter his eye socket.  He was not an innocent victim.  Anytime something happens involving a black person it is made into a major issue and the race card is played.  I saw a brief snippet of a news story where about 20 black teens and young adults beat a white guy almost to death.  Nothing else was said. No big deal made out of it.  No big protests.  I agree the police sometimes over react but if you are stopped by a cop and you try to take his gun and you start fighting him and hitting him  -  he has a gun and he is in his legal rights to use it.  Just like, I, as an ordinary citizen would be in my rights if the same thing happened to me.
