Is My Dog Crazy?
« on: August 08, 2014, 05:02:53 am »
I have a 7 year old Chihuahua that weighs about 6 pounds that I leave dry food out all day for, but she hardly ever eats it. I also feed her about 1/4 can of top grade Taste of the Wild with a little dry mixed in and she eats it right down most of the time. However sometimes (like last night) she gives it a couple of sniffs and just turns up her nose.

Now here's the crazy part, I wait about an hour to make sure she isn't going to eat and then cut about an inch off the tip of a carrot and slice it up in tiny pieces that I can mix into the food. She gobbles it down like she is starving!

Is she crazy?  :dog:

I don't think that she is crazy. I think she is just a finicky eater and she knows that you will prepare her food the way she wants it eventually. Animals are smarter than we give them credit for.

What a clever little dog. I certainly wouldn't say she's crazy. She's figured out if she doesn't eat, you'll eventually put down something she enjoys more. I used to have a dog myself that wouldn't eat until I played with her. They can be crafty about getting what they want.

Hahaha. That's cute.  She obviously cares about canine nutrition.  Good for her. She's smart and crafty, not crazy.

She is getting her way so she's surely not crazy.  She may be a little spoiled but that's alright, she's worth it.  Carrots are good for her.

No, she is not crazy, what she is is a smart little girl who has daddy wrapped around her little  finger (sorry little paw)!  But that's what pets are, little people in fur coats who we can spoil.  Good daddy!

I have a chihuahua and he likes table food. I know it's bad but when I give him dog food, he has to be starving in order to eat it.

I will try the carrot trick. That's great! Thanks for sharing.

Animals know what they want. I had a cat that was the same way. Most of the time he wouldn't touch the dry food the other cats ate, ate canned food occasionally but mostly preferred warmed up meat. He would jump back to eat the food he didn't want if he thought you were giving it to another cat

No, she's not crazy.  She's probably hungry for the minerals.  Animals and people crave the nutrients their bodies need.  Often times, a hungry person wants sodium if they haven't eaten all day.  They reach for something convenient like fast food because they're subconsciously aware that fast food is loaded with sodium besides being a quick fix.

The thing that amazes me is that you're able to "tune into" your little friend and give her something she needs and wants.

Have a great day!

No, she's not crazy - she now knows "the game!"  She must really like those carrots you put in there and when she's in the mood for them, she KNOWS what she's gotta do to GET THEM, LOL!  Yes, our animals certainly do have us trained very well, hahahaha!!!

I couldn't say it better.  We think we train them, but they train us.  Good human, now go get yourself a cookie.   :dog:  :confused1:
