I learn much easier by seeing than reading. Whether it's a picture, a demonstration, or even a lecture, I just find it easier to pick up what they are trying to teach. That being said, while I was in school, I'd still do the reading homework even though the teacher would be covering it during class the next day; I may not have entirely comprehended what I had read, but it at least got me thinking about that subject as well as cluing me into the areas that I didn't grasp while reading so that I'd pay more attention when those topics came up in lecture.

Reading helped me more than if a teacher was up front and using the blackboard. But it was because my eyesight was screwy. Once it was corrected everything just fell into place. But I still love to read.

When I was training to become a Sales Consultant, I learnt that people listen by different means. Some people can listen to words and make sense of this but for others, they need to watch a video, see a graphic or watch a demonstration. Others need to act something out for it to really mean something to them. The point of this was, if you can appreciate how people absorb information and respond to it, you are more likely to make a sale. Indeed, there is no point talking at someone if they learn visually and there is no point giving a visual presentation if someone needs to act it out.

A combination. I really learn by trying to do something myself.

I have been reading since I was a child, and I understand words by doing so.  In looking at pictures, I understand less.   :rainbow: :rose:

Good training.  Everyone is either an auditory, visual or kinesthetic learner.  Usually a combination of two.  I'm a very right-brained kinesthetic/visual.  Don't tell me how to do something, put it in my hands and talk me through it.  I do learn well from books too because that's visual, but I prefer diagrams over text.  I can cook from text only recipes and crochet from patterns no problem, but the pictures multiply my comprehension of the finished product.  ;)

I'm more visual: sometimes if I read things, I have to re-read it a few times before it sinks in.

Both I guess.  Reading is the only way of actually having something literally explained.  But sometimes it's still hard to understand.  When I see a pic I might say oh I get it.  But a picture may not give all the details that I need.
So I guess pictures are good but reading would be better and both would be best!  :glasses-nerdy:
