Tween's
« on: July 01, 2014, 07:38:28 am »
Ok so I am officially the mother of my last tween today. My youngest is 12 today. She has a 19 year old sister who like any `teenage' girl likes looking at guys. But the 12 year old is doing it now and commenting on how `sexy' they look. She is your typical girl liking the boy bands (One Direction to be more precise) but for me to hear her say it about some of the actors in the Vampire Academy movie her sister loves... I guess its time to sit her down and start having the full talk with her now...

Good luck with your daughter.  In today's life kids are growing up faster and faster.  When I was 12 I  "liked" boys but didn't even know what sexy was!

Idk.  It seems odd to hear a 12 year old girl say a guy is sexy.  Does she even know what that means?  Saying he is cute or maybe even looks hot I can see.  I think she is just repeating what her older sister says and she does not really understand or know what it means.

It is a big adjustment when your kids discover the opposite sex.  My nephew recently made a comment about a girl and everyone was like "what??" lol.  They were talking about a younger girl that fills in teaching music and something came up about which girl it was.  And my nephew asked "is it the really hot one" lol.

It's difficult to say whether she is just repeating what her sister said or truly sees a guy as being sexy... In general, girls mature faster than boys and usually when a person hits puberty, they start seeing the opposite sex as sexy. I think I was probably 12 or 13 when I started thinking of girls as being sexy, because it was soon after getting into Jr High (7th grade) that I started looking at girls in that way. And when girls have been known to hit puberty at even earlier ages (like 10 in some cases), I can see that by 12 they are in tune with seeing guys as sexy.

And whether it is due solely from her own maturity or in part from her sister's influence, it probably is time for the talk in any case. Good luck!

Thanks. I do think a lot of her talk is just repeating her big sister. But she is going to be a little more harder to have the talk with then her sister was. She had a boy liking her when she was only 9 but back then it was also where they lived in separate cities (2 1/2hrs.) and were at summer day camp together. His grandmother and my mom are good friends and from what my mom told me there was a little girl who was making a pest of her self so my oldest was the less... shall we say threatening, it went on for two summers but all they ever did was hold hands.
The 12 year old. Well lets just say she is thin and willowy. We saw one of her teachers just yesterday and she said after just a month out of school she has gotten even taller. So I guess it is only natural for boys to start paying attention but still, she is my baby.

the talk? ha! i had the talk when my daughter was 10... and my son was 8...they learn about sex in school as early as 7 years old.  not to mention the other things kids think is ok...bad behavior, and materialistic ideas, cool trends that are not important and cause negative conformity type behavior that warps their minds... i am sure my kids grow up right, arent fooled, and i am involved and don't let them watch silly vampire shows or do whatever they feel like.
