Out side of what the doctors say about getting about 8 to 9 hours of sleep is healthy what do you as a person think?

I must say I can tell a big difference in the way my body feels when it gets a limited number of hours to sleep as opposed to the recommended eight or nine.  I feel more rested and relaxed ready to start my day when I get  eight or nine hours of sleep.  But only getting five or six hours of sleep leaves me tired and irritable. I guess there is something to be said about the number of hours of sleep the Doctors recommend.  :)

I think you know your body best, and are able to decide what the minimum amount of sleep you need is. I can function fine on 6 hrs, but any less and i start to drag.

I am always tired, but when I sleep longer I don't necessarily feel less tired.  i think 7-8 hours is good for me.

I would like to have 8 to 9 hours a day, but based on the number of hours I put at work and the responsibilities I have once I get home, I can really only do this during the weekend.  I do wonder, about the 90 minute interval rule I've heard about before.

I read (can't remember where) that it's not about the quantity of sleep but the quality of sleep you get. I can sleep deeper if I've been up longer, therefore sleeping a little less, and feel rested the next day. Sometimes though my body just needs to sleep longer. Like tonight is going to be one of those nights.

I rarely get that much sleep, but research has proven it to be more effective, when we're fully rested prepped and focused we're on top of our game. At the very least I am.

As for sleep I think it has to do with the individual. Some people cannot sleep 8 or 9 hours. I know I can't. I sleep between 5 and 7 hours. It seems to work for me.

I think it depends on the person.  I think 8 hours is good for me.  I sleep less as i age...and i would like to sleep more...but oh well.  Have a great weekend...

I like to get 8-9 hours of sleep but some nights I can't hardly sleep at all.  Going thru one of my "cycles" when I can't get to sleep or if I do, I can't stay asleep.  Hopefully this cycle won't last long!

Your body does need to rest and needs to re-energize, but even after 8 hours I still feel tired. Don't know why...

Most of the time I get about 4 to 5 hours of sleep. After that the longer I lay down the more tired I feel.
