Do anybody in this world think that foodstamps should be cutoff completely?

I agree with Send... in that I neither agree or disagree with the issue.  I have never gotten food stamps as an adult, but when we were kids, my mother got food from a government food program for us. (There were no food stamps then.)  My father had deserted his family, and it being at the time before dads were located and charged with not taking care of their children, my mother had a difficult time raising four children alone.  However, I know of people who receive food stamps that probably shouldn't get them.  And those who use food stamps for things they shouldn't.

There are plenty of people that wouldn't be able to eat unless they were able to get food assistance. I know there are so many kids in my community that only really get decent meals at school because their parents can't afford much else .

I know there are some people that take advantage of the system but those who truly need it shouldn't be punished

This is very true! Most of the abuse is by the retailers who are breaking the law by their actions. You hear about the abuses but you do not hear about the people who are barely managing to feed their families and not able to work or can't find work.

Everyone situationS are different. When my husband lose his job we depended on employment checks. 2 years went by could find work and the unemployment check ran out we force to go on foodstamp. Finally about after a year he found a job and starting back our life again. It tough when you have children you swallow your pride and go stand at foodstamp window. NO, I don't  think we should cut off completely.

Our country provides assistance to countries all over the world and I believe that if people in our own country need some type of assistance, especially so they will not go hungry, they should receive it. The only problem I have is with the people who choose to abuse such a privilege that is being offered.

i think that food stamps are a good thing that are being misused horribly.  there needs to be more strictness to the food stamps and with any type of assistance i think that you should have to pass a drug screen (just saying).

People who are on foodstamps genuinely need them. There are very few actually cheating the government and taxpayers as far a statistics go. Most people on foodstamps either have children or are elderly. I think. These populations are the most vulnerable. You do not want to hurt the weak.

Great question.  No, food stamps should not be done away with.  There are families that truly need them.  Especially since the cost of a tank of gas has gone up over 25 bucks in the last three years.  Now, I do agree that each year when people have to do their annual re-certification that there should be a drug test.  That would not be an issue.  I think if a family is living on them but can do that kind of stuff, then there is indeed an issue.

I agree with skrogman about drug tests, but I think they should be random.  If the applicant is expecting a drug test at re-certification, they can cheat.  But if they don't know when they will have to take the test, it may be more realistic.

If food stamp was used just for a temporary purpose so that people and family who needs them the most will get that assistance then it is worth it. But for some reason when there is an abuse of using it, then that is NOT right. My family used to benefit from this assistance until I was able to be healthy again and find a job. I am grateful for this assistance when I couldn't afford to work due to some health issues. Now I am totally healthy again and do NOT need that assistance anymore.

I neither agree or disagree with the Food Stamps issues because there are no jobs available.  What should single mother  when her husband ran away and forget about his responsibilities seek help.
