Thank you for the informative tips.  There is one that I have tried that works well is wraping bread in papertowel helps soften the bread preventing it from getting hard from microwaving.

I'd say that I knew about half of those "life hacks" although it's always nice to hear about these little tips and tricks. The fruitfly one I've used a few times now... Last year, my house had a horrible fruitfly problem, so I had a little cup with that vinegar mixture sitting on the kitchen counter for most of the summer; I'm thinking I may bring in a cup into work since it seems like this summer the fruitflies are bad over there.

I once had a book that had all sorts of tips and tricks in it. Some were genuine tips to help you with a problem in general life while others were more like parlor tricks (eg how to whistle using your fingers or how to do cat's cradle). I wish I knew what the name of the book was (or its author) and whether it was still in print.
