STARR Test
« on: May 30, 2014, 11:27:02 pm »
Do your kids do the STARR Test in school?

I think it is very stressful for them and the teachers too. But more stressful for me  :( I can't sleep until I find out if my child passed his tests.

What the hell is the star test? I never heard of this. Maybe some schools do different things. I also think school is getting stupid. It seems they are not advancing fast enough for the children today.

Honestly i have never heard of a STARR test is it another version of a TAKS test?  I have never really agreed teaching to these tests because it has nothing to do with weather you pass or fail a class that's what semester exams are for.. So i don't really understand why it's there unless they are just trying to see where about's your learning knowledge is at..

I'm thinking what you're talking about is very similar to an Arizona AIMS Test (they just probably call it different things in different states).  The AIMS test is one that all high school students in the state of Arizona must pass in order to graduate.  It's a state-wide proficiency test in writing, reading, math and science.

TAKS and AIMS Tests, yes they have to pass the STAR Test in order to be promoted.

Even if they did good in their class average. They have to pass a Science, Math, Reading English, History STARR Test to be promoted to the next school level.

I don't think you should express this kind of feeling, especially if you don't even know what a STARR Test is.  ::)  :-X

I don't think school is stupid at least not where I live.  Maybe where you live schools are stupid.  :silly: I went to college and my son is attending middle school. When I was in middle school, schools were not that advanced. I think with all the new technology students are being pushed to learn more then what we used to.

My son has to take a STAR test also but this year they implemented a new testing curriculum that is to get the kids familiar with common core state testing. I do not like common core but my son seems to have found a way to understand it and we have been working together to get mommy on the same page as not to get frustrated when learning something new like this. You get the same answer but common core goes around two blocks, hit a dip in the road and then gets you to the answer lol. Not like when we were young and 2+2=4 and that was it. Now days you have to do 3 or 4 solutions just to get the same answer. Big headache until my 10 yr old explains it to me, plus they have online help with each lesson.  ??? ::) :confused1:

My children don't take the STARR test but in Florida they take the FCAT. The schools are now just teaching to the test and the students get extremely stressed out when it is time to take the tests. You have to pass the test in 3rd grade to be promoted and also in high school. Our school district has recently decided to do away with the FCAT and go to test that are just diagnostic rather than a pass/fail type. I think it will be less stressful for the kids.
