Technology
« on: May 26, 2014, 04:36:04 pm »
I was at Taco Bell today and I had a coupon for a couple of free items. The cashier had to have a manager over ride the transaction.  There is a little thing on the side of the register and she put her finger on it and it scanned her finger print. I asked to make sure I was correct in what I thought.   They do this instead of the cards they use to have.  The employees clock in and out the same way.  I don't know why but to me that is just scary.

I will be glad when every one of my computers has that to logon for various sites. Sounds like good security to me.

Believed it or not. That is the new time recording technology. Instead of punched in your card, you'll be scanning your thumb in and out. That way it will show them positively that you are in and you are out in those times. But hope this kind of tech will little bit raise on hourly rate employees... What you think? Those tech cost more and they spending on it but not on employees..

It's nothing new except for the fact that it hasn't been released elsewhere. The underlying issue is most people feel just like you when it comes to technology seeming too intrusive.

Idk it just seems like it is a step closer to the mark of the beast.  We clock in and out with our employee number and a password on a computer.

I like that much better than using some card... A fingerprint is unique to every human whereas some employee ID / password is just an arbitrary value assigned to an employee and can more easily be stolen, used by a different employee, etc. Plus it saves time (at least if a person has to type something in in addition to a card swipe).

They've been making more and more computers with this technology built into the system (ie some laptops will have a small fingerprint scanner near the keyboard), so I'm actually more surprised that this hasn't been put in place in more locations and businesses.

But hope this kind of tech will little bit raise on hourly rate employees... What you think? Those tech cost more and they spending on it but not on employees..

The reason why business may spend more on the technology than in giving a raise to employees is that in the long run, this technology will somehow benefit the business... Less security issues, employees not being able to clock in / out for their friends that show up late / leave early, time savings, etc. And so the added cost for switching to this technology is justified by the savings it will produce in the long run. However giving a raise to the employees (esp. without reason) won't necessarily benefit the business and will just cost the business more money in the long run.

I had no idea that's what is going on!  I'll keep a look out next time I use a coupon at a fast food joint.  Crazy.  Gotta love technology.

I don't think people fully understand the technology they have now.
