Rummage Sale
« on: May 19, 2014, 06:41:47 pm »
My sister and her neighbor had a huge 3-day rummage sale over the week-end and my mother and I were part of this big event. It was a little cold the first couple days, but we were fortunate enough not to get rained out, even though rain was in the forecast for our area. It was exhausting for us all, needless to say; and I'm sure for anyone who has held a rummage sale, they sure do know the feeling. We got rid of A LOT of stuff and made quite a bit of money so I do consider our week-end endeavor quite a success!  :) :) :)

My family, friends and I love going to rummage sales, too! We especially enjoy the block rummage sales where we can park and hit at least 20 of them at one time. It is absolutely amazing the deals that you can find at these sales and how often we find NEW items up for sale. So glad spring/summer is here!  ;D

I love rummage sales and yard sales. Also thrift stores and goodwill.

I enjoy going to them and yard sales. I ought to have one for myself. But I am only looking for certain things. A lot of times I will come home with out buying a darn thing. But it gets me out and I get to visit.

I have had yard sales.  A few good ones and some bad ones.  You have to have a lot of furniture to make money.  Well at least down here. Or childrens toys clothes etc.   Clothes go for about .25  here people do not want to pay more unless it is a unique item.

I love going to them for sure, but I have never had one. I have heard they are a lot of work.

I saved myself broke last weekend (ok, not really... But I did end up spending close to $50 buying mostly CDs). There were plenty of good sales, and the weather was absolutely perfect: sunny, temps in the low to mid 70s, and just a gentle breeze. The big deals that I got: a bookshelf (for more of my CD collection) for $2, the CDs I picked up were all 50-cents each and at one sale there was a huge tub of them so I ended up spending close to $20 on that sale alone. But the best find was a Wii Fit board; I saw a few places selling these and most were asking $40-$50... The one that I picked up cost only $3, so even if I never use it I could still get at least 5 times my money if not closer to ten times for it!

Congratulations!  We've had a few garage sales ... they are very hard, but getting rid of the accumulated stuff we all have is a great thing, making extra bucks is also nice!  We make over $400 in our first one.  That really helped with the move too!

Glad yours turned out to be a success !!!

I'm glad you did good. I love garage sales and thrift stores too, but yard sales are cheaper so I usually try to hit those first.

Rummage sales are a great way to find deals or to make some extra money. I just helped a friend with a rummange sale last month and it was amazing how much she made, and it really cleared up some space. I think most of the people walked away with a good deal too so everybody won. It was pretty fantastic.

sharonpatri55, Way to go!  I've had a few garage sales in my day, and they are hard work!!!  But it is very satisfying when you are able to get rid of a lot of items you don't need and make money in the process.  The worst part for me is having people show up before the scheduled time.  People from my area always show up well before we are ready for them. I guess they are early birds trying to get the worm.
